Now, to be fair, the ladies of GoodChoiceReading love us some Black City - check out Damaris' review here, where she actually writes hoping it gets turned into a movie.
But my issue is the fact that these film rights were bought before the book even came out. Before we know its sales numbers, before we get more readers' opinions. It just seems so....so....fake. I feel like the film studios are just buying up the rights to every single Y.A. book that comes out - even if they don't really plan on following through with the film. What do you think? Am I just being selfish in wanting my favorites books to stay books and stop turning into movies?
Thursday's Question of the Day: How Do You Feel About the Explosive Number of Film Rights for Y.A. Novels?
LET ME KNOW!!
I've noticed a lot of that lately too. They are bought before we even get to read! And I used to get really excited but not as much lately because like you said, it feels like EVERY YA book is getting bought. I really do hope some of them are brought to life though! But it's hard to get too excited when it doesn't really feel like it will follow through. Now when they announce more information about steps to make it happen, like they have for Divergent, THEN I get excited. :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't read Black City but I'm really excited for the movie just for what I've read, thanks to reviews of the books. The film industry lately don't want to waste time, they are buying the rights of books before others do.
ReplyDeleteNot at all. I would love to see some books turned into movies but certainly not all of them. Plus if they aren't going to put the effort into making the movie worthy of the book they shouldn't even bother, and since they bought the rights before it seems like they may not.
ReplyDeleteI don't have the same feelings with you. I am very very excited. I really want to see my favorite characters to have face and how the world of my favorites books would be in screen.

Being that I am very "visual", I love when my favorite books get turned into movies.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe the book already has film rights to it, makes me want to read it before the movie!!
