Rated-R Novels / Awesome Cover Love

This Saturday we'd like to share three pieces of news for you....

In a piece of news that I don't find all that shocking, a study has found that 20% of best-selling teen novels contain language that would be considered taboo on t.v. And about 88% of the top 40 books contained some sort of foul language. Many of these books would be strong enough to earn them a Rated-R rating in the movies.

In my opinion, the kids are hearing these words every day in school, with friends, even with family. What's the big deal?

Are You Shocked By This At All?

In an oddly twist to the madness surrounding Fifty Shades of Grey author, E.L. James, she has announced that she will be making the switch to Y.A. soon.

In an interview, James has said that she will be writing two more novels, one of which is a Y.A. paranormal novel. No word yet on the content of this novel.

Will You Be Reading Her Two New Novels?

I was on the Publishers Weekly website earlier this week and found a great piece they did on MG and YA book covers. I thought I'd share my favorites with you!  To see the full list, you can visit their site here

Will You Be Picking Any of These Up?

  1. I'm OK with SOME YA novels being "rated R," as long as the content that gives them that rating is intended to be realistic to actual teen life, not just added in for shock value. Even those of us who don't use foul language hear it all the time; it doesn't really bother me that much so long as it's not excessive.

  2. There are novels that I read as required in high school that contained adult themes and language, and I've never seen a problem with with any media, as long as the graphic parts and integral to the novel and not gratuitous for the sake of titillating or shocking, it's all fine by me. :)

  3. I just wanted to stop in and post that you have an awesome site! =)
