Review: Insurgent by Veronica Roth

Insurgent (Divergent, #2)
Insurgent
By Veronica Roth
Expected publication:
May 1st 2012 by HarperTeen

One choice can transform you—or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves—and herself—while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

Tris's initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable—and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.

New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth's much-anticipated second book of the dystopian Divergent series is another intoxicating thrill ride of a story, rich with hallmark twists, heartbreaks, romance, and powerful insights about human nature.

               My Review:

Veronica Roth once again outdid herself with Insurgent. Usually when I read a sequel it's almost never as good as the first book. But Insurgent exceeded my expectations. I kept thinking to myself that "Insurgent couldn't be better than Divergent. How can she top Divergent?" Those were my thoughts prior to reading this novel. But when I started reading it, I was stunned by how quickly I was hooked. Veronica Roth didn't waste no time in bringing on the action.

One of the best things about Insurgent is, that it practically picked right up where Divergent left off. Insurgent takes you on a roller coaster ride through all five factions. And while you're visiting each one, you will witness each ones weakness and strength. And you also get reacquainted some Dauntless traitors. I caught myself getting angry with the Dauntless traitors and waiting to shoot them myself. This book was intense. I found myself holding my breath at times and shocked with some revelations.

Like Divergent, Insurgent is a book that once you pick it up, you can NOT put down. It sucks you in. Tris and Tobias (Four) takes you on a journey through Chicago that will consume you. In my opinion, Tris and Four are a powerful couple. Together they take Chicago by storm! Insurgent is a absolute MUST buy MUST read! A definite 5 stars and a Good Choice for Reading!

  3. With all of the insane hype, I'm really hoping Divergent is freaking awesome. Over-hyping has killed some things for me, and I really hope this isn't one of them! Especially since I bought the first book NEW, a thing nigh unheard of. Hopefully, I love it like you do!

  4. Thanks for a great review! I'm so jealous that you already got to read it ;) I loved Divergent and I sailed through it. My DH was laughing at me cuz he said that I devolved to grunting and my dear pup, the love of my life, was rather put out b/c he didn't get any attention. I've already prewarned them both that when this book hits my kindle, I am not to be disturbed!
