Review: Embrace By Jessica Shirvington

Hardcover, 368 pages
Expected publication: March 1st 2012
By Sourcebooks Fire

I slowly opened my eyes. The sun speared its first bright rays of golden orange into the sky and I leapt from the cliff, with the sorrowful knowledge that no matter what the outcome, at least part of me would die that day...

Violet Eden is dreading her seventeenth birthday dinner. After all, it’s hard to get too excited about the day that marks the anniversary of your mother’s death. The one bright spot is that Lincoln will be there. Sexy, mature and aloof, he is Violet’s idea of perfection. But why does he seem so reluctant to be anything more than a friend?

After he gives her the world’s most incredible kiss – and then abandons her on her front doorstep – Violet is determined to get some answers. But nothing could have prepared her for Lincoln’s explanation: he is Grigori – part angel and part human – and Violet is his eternal partner.

Without warning, Violet’s world is turned upside down. She never believed in God, let alone angels. But there’s no denying the strange changes in her body ... and her feelings for Lincoln. Suddenly, she can’t stand to be around him. Luckily, Phoenix, an exiled angel, has come into her life. He’s intense and enigmatic, but at least he never lied to her.

As Violet gets caught up in an ancient battle between dark and light, she must choose her path. The wrong choice could cost not only her life, but her eternity...

           My Thoughts:

I first came across "Embrace" through Goodreads. I can't tell you how much I LOVE that site. And immediately I was drawn by the cover. Don't judge a book by it's cover, but how can you not when the cover looks so intriguing. You have the main character Violet looking at you while she appears to have angel wings above her. Lucky for me, Damaris received a copy and I snatched it up to read. And I must say, I can't wait to get my hands on the second book. This is a perfect debut novel for Jessica. A job well done.

This story is about Violet who happens to be half human half angel. Violet is a spunky character, who has no problems telling you how she feels. She stands her ground and wasn't letting anyone sway her into making a decision she wasn't ready to make or rather didn't want to make. Violet is definitely a kick ass character. Nothing puts too much fear in her and she deal with situations head on. She's not your usual annoying and whiny character, which to me is a breath of fresh air.

Violet is one lucky gal, not only to have one hot guy but TWO!! First she has Lincoln, the one that stole her heart but won't really acknowledge that fact. The very one that gives her a mind-blowing kiss that shakes her to her very core but then leaves her as soon as it's done. Though later on during the book, Jessica explains as to the reason for his actions. And then you have the one I got the hots for, Phoenix. He just has your typical bad boy demeanor but that would steal you away from it all. From the moment, Phoenix was introduced I always had my suspicions with him. But even with all that I still couldn't help but fall in love with him along with Violet. He is definitely mesmerizing. I'm TEAM PHOENIX!! LOL.

While having these two amazing hotties, their presence in her life is for a reason. Both angels of some sort are there to help guide her. But Violet feels betrayed by Lincoln because he was so secretive about real meaning behind their friendship. He was her eternal partner and he never told her. But with Phoenix, she knew from the beginning he was an exiled and he didn't hide it from her. He was there to comfort and catch her (literally) when she needed. But in a world where she's a Grigori and he's an exile, where would it lead them? What will happen between her and Lincoln? You have to read the book to know what happens in this love triangle.

This book has a bit of everything. It has love, action, decision making, etc. Whenever I picked this book up I couldn't put it down. I had to force myself to put it down and go to bed or get ready for work. There isn't a dull moment in "Embrace". Every single page is filled with words that will captivate you. Jessica did a great job with making you fall in love with her characters. Because I sure did! A wonderful debut novel. This book seems to be a great success in Australia, I can imagine the success it'll have in the U.S. when it hit shelves in stores next year! This gets a 10 stars. An amazing read and a definite Good Choice for Reading!!
