In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.
During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

Debut author Veronica Roth bursts onto the literary scene with the first book in the Divergent series—dystopian thrillers filled with electrifying decisions, heartbreaking betrayals, stunning consequences, and unexpected romance.

I am loving all these Dystopian books! To think, I was so against reading them. I really don't know why to be completely honest with you. It only took one, and now I am addicted.

Getting right to the point, out of all the books I've read since 2011 started, Divergent is, hands down THE BEST book I've read this year. I wish I would have picked it up sooner instead of letting it sit on my bookshelf for so long.

It's been a very long time since a book kept me up all hours of the night reading. I told myself so many different times to put the book down, and "one more chapter" kept winning LOL. I will admit that the first couple of chapters were a little slow and I did find myself losing hope, but everyone kept saying how great Divergent was, so I continued on. I am so glad I did because they were right.

Divergent is an astounding read that will leave you thinking and dreaming about it for days. You will get so sucked into Beatrice and her world, that everything else around you will go silent. It's so direct and fast paced, putting it down will not be an option. With a little taste of everything from suspense, mystery, action, to a very well developed romance between two very strong and prevailing characters. Veronica Roth's hits us with her YA Novel and hits us hard. I loved it and there really isn't anything else I can say besides that it's A DEFINITE MUST READ!

5 out 5 stars!

added: Just found out from Veronica Roth's blog that Divergent got picked up by Summit films! O-M-G this is going to be a GREAT movie (As long as Katherine doesn't touch it lol.) Yay!

  13. I have to admit, I don't understand exactly what makes a book dystopian, what't the definiton of dystopian? How is it different from urban fantasy? This book does sound interesting and I will definitely put it on my wish list.
