When a mysterious young woman named Katie appears in the small North Carolina town of Southport, her sudden arrival raises questions about her past. Beautiful yet self-effacing, Katie seems determined to avoid forming personal ties until a series of events draws her into two reluctant relationships: one with Alex, a widowed store owner with a kind heart and two young children; and another with her plainspoken single neighbor, Jo. Despite her reservations, Katie slowly begins to let down her guard, putting down roots in the close-knit community and becoming increasingly attached to Alex and his family.
But even as Katie begins to fall in love, she struggles with the dark secret that still haunts and terrifies her . . . a past that set her on a fearful, shattering journey across the country, to the sheltered oasis of Southport. With Jo's empathic and stubborn support, Katie eventually realizes that she must choose between a life of transient safety and one of riskier rewards . . . and that in the darkest hour, love is the only true safe haven.
My Thoughts:
Nicholas Sparks never disappoints me! I am a huge fan of Nicholas Sparks. There isn't a book that he has written that I haven't loved or has not made me cry. And his movies are almost as good as his books too.
Well in this book, we have a poor damsel in distress Katie. Katie had to escape her home and ended up in Southport, North Carolina. Where she searched to begin her life over again. A new life, a new her. A new home. A new job. She kept to herself and had her guards up with everything and everyone around her. But a new neighbor moved into the house next to hers and quickly became friends with Katie. She was there for her and encouraged her to do things she felt insecure about.
So as Katie continues to open herself up and let her guards down, she meets a local store owner named Alex. Alex is a former military personnel and notices things about Katie not many people would. He notices Katie has secrets but only in time will they be revealed. As they became friends and things began to unfold, they started to fall in love with each other. But Katie wasn't ready to reveal her past and wasn't sure about what the future has in store for her. With this confusion she turns to her "new" friend Jo and Jo encouraged her to continue to pursue what she feels in heart to be there for him and he was with her. As further events unfolds, these events can either push them together or pull them apart.
This story draw me in the minute I opened the book. I couldn't put it down. Nicholas Sparks has a way of words that can captivate you and pull you into the story. I found myself rooting for Alex and Katie and hoping for the best for them. He also had me curious about Jo. "Safe Haven" is a 5 out of 5 stars! I see myself reading it again to make sure I didn't miss something. It's definitely a "Good Choice for Reading!" Go out and get it! You will NOT be disappointed!
Thanks for the great review! I'm a big fan of Nicholas Sparks, too, so I'm excited to read this one.

@Julie- you are going to love it...pay close attention.
ReplyDelete@Tiffany- I have never heard of Nicholas Sparks giving away review copies. My boyfriend bought me the book. I must say I WILLLLLL read it again. It's really good. By Christmas it'll probably be cheaper. He got it from Boarders and @ 30%off and it still came out to pennies to $20...so by then I think it'll be more affordable. But once you read you'll see what I mean by wanting to read it again. Come back to chat about you two. I would love to discuss it. I'm at @GCRWanda on twitter. I'll add you Tiffany.
Great review! I too love each of Sparks' books, and they all make me cry also. Looking forward to reading this one, and then watching the movie.
