Review: Paranormalcy By Kiersten White

Hardcover, 352 pages
Published August 31st 2010 by HarperTeen
Weird as it is working for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, Evie's always thought of herself as normal. Sure, her best friend is a mermaid, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she’s falling for a shape-shifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals' glamours, but still. Normal.

Only now paranormals are dying, and Evie's dreams are filled with haunting voices and mysterious prophecies. She soon realizes that there may be a link between her abilities and the sudden rash of deaths. Not only that, but she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.

Review:

The minute I started reading Paranormalcy I was sucked in. The first chapter takes you right into action. I finished reading Paranormalcy in two days. It was definitely a page turner. Though, I did have some issues with the book, but I will get to that soon.

I could not help but to get lost inside of Evie's world. Every person she came across and worked with, was just so interesting. I also loved every scene with Lend. He was very intriguing and I just needed to know more about him. I loved the way Evie and Lend fell for each other. It was just one of those things that you just felt was right.

I really enjoyed the plot of the story. There were times when I thought I figured it all out and thought I had every character nailed down, only to find out that I was way off track.

The only issue I had with this book was Evie. In the beginning of the book I felt she was a very strong girl and a fighter, but as I kept on reading she just came off as a whiny & spoiled brat. Then somewhere down the line she becomes a fighter again and then back down. Her character to me just wasn't consistent. I couldn't figure her out at all and just didn't find myself connecting to her. This was my only issue with this book.

I do recommend this book and give it Four stars. If there is a second part, I will definitely read it because I think Kiersten White is a great story teller. A Good Read!

  4. I gave this one 4 stars too, and I really enjoyed it. It was completely different from the "norm" of YA paranormal fiction right now, so it felt like a fresh read!
