Almost Human trilogy by Melanie Nowak (Dee)

In this witty paranormal adventure/romance, each chapter alternates perspective between an elder vampire and a young human girl as they navigate the difficulties of addiction and desire; the perils of zombies and vampires; and struggles with abuse, morality and? college.

Volume 1 - Fatal Infatuation:
Felicity is quiet, shy and prone to self doubt. Going away to college is an opportunity to mature into a confident young woman; but her new beginning turns out to be more of an adventure than she bargained for when she finds that her new school is plagued not by bullies, but vampires!
Cain is a man who displays quiet confidence and inner strength even as he struggles to overcome the sins of his past. Centuries ago he was reborn as a creature of the night - a vampire. Surprisingly he found that in losing his life he gained his faith and a purpose. His mission: find and educate hostile vampires to live in peace with humans; teach them discipline to control the supernatural presence within. But after meeting Felicity his most difficult task lies in controlling himself.

Volume 2 - Lost Reflections:
Felicity has helped her friends to escape Sindy and her evil coven, but cannot divine the motives of Cain, the vampire who captured first her gratitude and then her heart. The historical account of his past and how he became a vampire is enthralling and frightening. She must decide whether he really is the gentle and sincere man that he seems, in desperate need of love and understanding in his fight against his own vampire nature, or if his thirst for her blood is a driving force too strong for their love to conquer. How will she ever truly know if the addictive venom in his kiss is clouding the judgment of her mind? Her heart has already been lost to him; will she lose her life as well?

Volume 3 - Evolving Ecstasy:
Felicity is unlike any human Cain has known before. She treats him as an equal, a man worthy of friendship, respect and even love. She embodies qualities of gentleness and loving trust that he has never found among his own kind. This makes her far more desirable to him than any creature of darkness could ever be. Is her trust in him only the foolishness of a young girl in love, unjustified?
Cain is all too conscious of the fact that the venom of his bite would give him a connection to her unequaled by any other and protect her from hostile vampires, but it would give him a measure of psychic control over her as well. He could make Felicity into a vampire, to accompany him in his quest to help others and abate his loneliness. But is his desire for companionship worth the loss of her life?

My thoughts...

It has been weeks since I read this book and till this day I am still thinking about it and recommending it to everyone. I just can not get it out of my head! I came across this book on Amazon when I was looking for a new e-book for my Kindle. The cover sorta pulled me in, but what really did it were the reviews on Amazon. So many people on Amazon had so many great things to say about this book so I went ahead and got the sample, read the sample and then went ahead and bought it. I am so glad I did! :-)

How can I write this review without spoilers... hmmm Doubt I can! So beware!

What I liked the most about this book was that the world and characters Melanie Nowak created were very believable. Some of the things in this book happens in real life on daily basis, of course not the whole vampire stuff haha, but school, work, life in general. So it was very easy to relate to her characters and be pulled into the town like if you were living there as well.  It was not hard at all to feel like you were there at every scene just watching it all play out.

*****SPOILERS***** NOT MUCH!

Ben, Felicity and Alyson become really close friends and are very much aware what lurks around their town. Ben hates vamps with all his heart, Alyson could careless and Felicity is just still getting used to it in book one. I think it was so cute how Felicity and Cain started out. Cain is shocked that Felicity even spoke to him in the first place and then offers to spend time with him. He slowly begins to feel this pull to Felicity only to find out that the whole time Felicity had no idea what he truly was. Once she does though it pops open a jar of emotions and confusion.  She does not know if she should pull away from Cain or continue to speak to him. Of course it does not help with Ben hating vamps so much and putting things in her head.

Cain and Felicity slowly begin to trust each other and the can of worms that opened up. I really liked them together and let me tell you, the scene Melanie Nowak wrote between Cain and Felicity on their "First time" gave me goosebumps and turned my cheeks red. I never had a book make my whole body tingle from just reading a love scene. The scene was written so well that I felt every single emotion they were feeling towards each other. It was just perfect in every way!

Alyson is very easy to picture and you can not help but love her for being so bold and daring. She did not fear anything really especially Sindy, who pretty much thinks she is such a bad ass and creates her own little gang of vamps to follow her. At first I hated Sindy's character, but somewhere down the line you learn the truth behind Sindy and sorta feel sorry for her. She lived a rough life before being turned and never really had anyone to love her.

I feel like I am giving way to much away! lol

Everything in this book just went together perfectly. From the first page until the very last. Honestly, there were so many things I thought I knew was going to happen and was shocked when it went in a whole different direction. This book was well written and has a little bit of everything. You'll cry a little, laugh a little, scream a little and be in shock from time to time. Don't let me get started on the ending of this book!! I am so torn right now because of the way this book ended. I no longer know what I want for Felicity.

I just love this book and can not wait until the second part (which will be another trilogy) released on May 31, 2010. Hopefully! I definitely recommend this book. You can purchase this book on Amazon.com in ebook format or paperback only since Melanie is an Independently Published Author.
