I have to be honest, this was my very first novel by Lisa Renee Jones. I have about 4 of her books on my bookshelf and just haven’t had the chance to read them. I happen to come across HARD RULES on NetGalley and immediately thought it was my kind of book. And, since I am big on e-books at the moment, I was able to jump right into it.

I started HARD RULES the day I got it and finished it the next day. It was very entertaining and super sexy. I won’t lie, there were a couple of things that bothered me about the story. I was not happy with the fact that even at the very end of the story we still don’t really know what is going on with Emily, and what she is running from. On a good note though, the next book in the series continues Emily and Shane’s story. I am hoping we get a little more on Emily.

HARD RULES is told from Shane and Emily’s POV, so that was a plus. I love it when authors do that.

Overall, the story was filled with lots of romance and sexy time, tons of suspense, and a bunch of twisted secrets. Shane’s family is so screwed up it’s not even funny. HARD RULES sort of reminded me of J.R. Ward’s THE BOURBON KINGS. So if you liked that book, you will like this one too.
I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
