1. Tell us a little about yourself and your latest/upcoming release.
Thanks for having me at GCR today!! I’m Clare James and I write steamy contemporary romance. I’ve been doing this for about two and a half years, and it’s been a dream come true. Of course, I’ve been writing for most of my life. When I’m not putting pen to paper, I’m reading or hanging out with my husband and son.
The most exciting thing happened to me last year – I signed a three-book deal with Entangled’s Brazen line! PLAYED, which releases October 19th, is my second book in the series, but is a standalone story about a young washed-up country star who gets another shot at fame, and the woman who can help him get there.
With all the steam you’ve come to expect in a Brazen, but also a truly tender love story arch, PLAYED is a swoony-hot romance! I really hope everyone likes it!
2. Do you read reviews of your books? What do you do when you read a not-so-nice one?
I do read the reviews, I can’t help myself :) So far, I’ve been pretty darn lucky because they’ve been so great. When I get a not-so-nice one, I really consider what the reviewer is saying. Sometimes there are helpful nuggets in there. Other times, I might be able to tell that the reviewer is trying to be snarky and funny for their own audience. And that’s fine, I just move on.
If I get people to take the time to leave a review, I consider it a win!!
3. How did you come up with the idea for Played?
I used to work in public relations and thought it’d be fun to write a series about a group of strong women who save the men for a change. In Caught, my heroine tries to repair the reputation of a naughty racecar driver after a sex tape goes viral. In Played, my heroine takes a wash-up cowboy and makes him over into a Country God. And in Exposed … well, that book hasn’t been announced yet, so I’m going to keep it to myself a bit longer.
4. What's the one piece of technology you can't live without?
I can’t live without my iphone because it’s everything all in one: my computer, my phone, my texting device, my weather station, my music, my Kindle. I love it so much!!
5. What are you working on now?
Right now, I’m finishing up my third Brazen titled: Exposed. It is really a fun story. Ohmygod, the situations this heroine gets into are hilarious! I think readers are going to adore her.
Next up is a bit darker series that is so sexy, I can’t even tell you! I hope to announce more on that very soon!
