I don't even know where to begin. I have never read a book by K.A. Linde before. Though, I have been curious since her books get recommended a lot. The Affiliate caught my eye because lately high fantasy is all I've been reading. I have a huge obsession with it, especially young adult high fantasy.
Also, the cover completely sealed the deal for me. I actually started off with a sampler of the book and once the sampler came to its end I immediately logged in and bought the book so that I could finish it. I was so into it and I only read the first 20 pages or so. This book did not disappoint. I could not put it down. I loved everything about it. The romance is by far my TOP FAVORITE thing about this book. It was there, but it wasn't. I thought at first there was going to be a love triangle, but Linde did not throw that into the mix in this book. Now as for the sequel, who knows, but I hope not!
I still don't know how I feel about Kael, the King's brother. I don't know if he is bad or good, and I think that was the author’s goal. Which, let me tell, she succeeded in doing one hundred percent. I hated him, then I started to like him, then hate him, and ended with liking him again. The King has my heart, though. FOREVER! LOL!
Argh! The feels!! This book definitely took me by surprise. I never heard of it, nor have I seen it in the blogosphere, but it caught my attention. I bought it yesterday and finished it today. Now I am tempted to try Linde's other books, but I am not a big contemporary romance fan. I have a handful of authors that write contemporary that I read.
Anyway, if you are reading this review it's because the cover, blurb, or something about this book got your attention, and I am here telling you that YOU MUST BUY IT AND READ IT! SO WORTH IT!

On the day of her Presenting, in front of the entire Byern Court, seventeen-year-old Cyrene Strohm's lifelong plans come to fruition when she's chosen for one of the most prestigious positions in her homeland—an Affiliate to the Queen.
Or so she thinks.

King Edric himself.
Cyrene must decide if love is truly worth the price of freedom. Find out in this first book in USA Today bestselling author K.A. Linde’s new Ascension series.
