Sometimes it's easier to run...

Ripped apart by guilt and grief, nineteen-year-old Whit Conrad grabs her stuff and runs from her super-conservative home and family in Pennsylvania and hauls ass for sunny California. All she wants is escape. Now she has a craptastic apartment, a job at a tattoo parlour, and even a friend-who's-mostly-benefits. Then she meets a sexy, inked, surfer-dude who has the potential of capsizing everything...

Deo Beckett is adrift. Underemployed and over-boozing, Deo knows he should be doing something more with his life. Being something more. All it takes is a pin-up hottie with a smart mouth—and a bruised soul—to force Deo to start looking below the surface. To wonder if there's more to life than being a beach bum. Now he's falling for Whit...and hard.

But Whit ran from home for a reason, and she'll go to any lengths to keep Deo from learning the truth...

First I’d like to say I prefer the original title – Lengths. I’m not entirely sure why it was changed or why “Hide Me” would better suit the story, but I think it should have been left alone. The cover, however, has improved quite a bit.

I really enjoyed Hide Me. The thing I liked most about this story was the raw and realistic way it was handled. These characters are stubborn. STUBBORN. And nearsighted and make really stupid decisions. However, these were not mere plot devices. They were real mistakes, the kinds of mistakes people make when they’re lacking proper communication, and sometimes it takes a fallout to realize that what you did was just…stupid.

I’d be lying if I said the characters didn’t drive me a bit crazy. In addition to the stubbornness there was a bit of instalove and flakiness on both of their parts, and some character issues that kind of made it hard to be in their heads at times. But as I said before, it didn’t feel like it was done for the sake of drama, but rather because it was just true to character.

Before reading Hide Me I had read some reviews of the original title – Lengths – on Goodreads, and I really expected not to like this book. I’m guessing there were a lot more changes than just the title and the cover, because those reviewers are describing what sounds like an entirely different book. If their reviews are any indication, the improvements made quite a difference.

  1. I've read Lengths and agree it's a better title -- not sure why they changed it? Anyway, great review -- I am excited this series was picked up by Entangled but I hope it doesn't change too much!
