Interview

1.      When did you realize that you wanted to become a writer? What was the very first thing you ever wrote?
I've always loved writing, but I didn't know I wanted to be a writer until late in life. Instead, I went to law school and became a lawyer. It was about five years into practicing that I realized I was doing the wrong thing with my life! It just hit me! I finally decided to chase my dreams and I'm so glad I did. Writing is pure joy, and it's exactly what I was meant to do. Oh, and the first thing I ever wrote was a story about a pet skunk. I was like seven or something. I still remember using the phrase "squeaky clean" when I wrote about giving him a bath. LOL It's random, I know.

2.      If you could choose one book cover to put on your wall as a poster, what would it be?
Hands down, I'd put the cover for Final Death on my wall. Not only do I love the  gold tones, but I love the visual of the girl disintegrating. The imagery, the tone, and even the title are just so powerful. The cover really captures the essence of the book.

3.      Do you find it hard to kill off your characters?
YES! A certain someone dies in Final Death that I hadn't planned on dying. In fact, this character was one of my faves. But when the story took on a life of its own, this person's death just happened.  I was soooo sad about it. And get this, when I wrote the scene this agonizingly sad song was playing on my TV in the other room. Worse, I wrote the scene the day Leonard Nimoy died! I'm not even kidding. It was super emotional for me. I still can't get over it. (This is also my hardest scene to write to date.)

4.      What's your favorite thing to do when you're not writing?
Going to a good movie! The most recent movie I've seen is Kingsman. WHOA, everyone needs to see it. It's amazing.

5.      Describe yourself in 3 words.
Easy going, fun, loyal.

6.      What do you normally like to read when not writing?
Science Fiction and Fantasy, either adult or young adult. I love the escapism of it.

7.      Who designed your cover?
Steven Novak. He's my awesome cover dude.

8.      What are you working on now?
I'm outlining a YA fantasy loosely based on the fall of the Incan Empire. I'm sooooo exctied about it!!

9.      If you could pick a soundtrack to match your main characters life, what would it be?
Interpol: Everything is Wrong. That song pretty much sums up the life of my protagonist Dominique Wells.

10.  What do you need to set the mood for you to write?
Awesome music, a ton of gum, and lots of water.

11.  If there is one genre that you have not written in yet, but would love to try writing a book in that specific genre, what would it be?
I have an amazing idea for a YA contemporary. All I need is more hours in my day!

About the Author

Rose Garcia is a lawyer turned writer who's always been fascinated by science fiction and fantasy. From a very young age, she often had her nose buried in books about other-worlds, fantastical creatures, and life and death situations. More recently she's been intrigued by a blend of science fiction and reality, and the idea that some supernatural events are, indeed, very real. Fueled by her imagination, she created The Transhuman Chronicles--a series of books about people who have overcome human limitations.

Rose lives in Houston with her husband and two kids. You can visit Rose at www.rosegarciabooks.com
