Blog Tour, Double Review & Giveaway: Summer's Temptation by Ashley Lynn Willis!

Title: Summer's Temptation
Author: Ashley Lynn Willis
Genre: New Adult, Contemporary Romance
Series: Vandeveer University #1

If there are only three truths in life, they are these. Women will always try to change a man. Men will always say anything to get a girl in bed. Tyler Mason will always have a long line of girls trying to domesticate him, and none will succeed. If one of these ceases to be true, the world will cease to exist.

These are the rules as college student Cassie Faye knows them, so when she gives up on dating in favor of a man who can satisfy her without tempting her heart, her next-door neighbor Tyler tops the list. Tyler isn’t the type of boy Cassie would fall for, but he’s the perfect guy to teach her how to claim her sexual independence without losing her heart in the process. Too late, Cassie finds out that under his womanizing exterior is an attentive, considerate lover who brings out passions in her that she'd barely glimpsed before.

What if she’s wrong about the third truth? What if the world as she knows it is about to cease to exist?

Let me just start by saying I beta read Summer's Temptation, and I adored the story. Is it cheating that I am also reviewing it? I don't care, I had to voice my opinion here. Cassie's had her heart broken, and she's trying to find a way to get her self esteem back. Tyler is the campus heart breaker, he doesn't do relationships.

Let me tell you who I LOVED in this story, Tyler. That boy is HOT, and sweet as pie....well, to Cassie anyway. I totally got the campus bad boy vibe from him, but he definitely shows there is more to him than a pretty package. I liked Cassie too, I really loved it when she found her backbone. Have I mentioned that I don't like weak female characters? I don't, and I'm not saying Cassie is weak, slightly timid, maybe. The girl has some courage, there's probably no way I would just come out and ask someone to be my.....hug buddy, as her and her girlfriends like to call it. There were a few points in the story where I kind of wanted to slap Cassie, and tell her to pull her head from her hind parts, though. I really liked the secondary characters as well. I think Liz was my favorite, she's tough, and takes no crap from no one.

So, again, I loved Summer's Temptation. I'm going to give the same flowery-star rating thingy that Amanda did, 4 and a half for me too. Unlike that lady down there, I'm excited to read the next installment. Apparently we sister's don't agree on everything, but that's okay, I'm the oldest, so I'm right. Ha!

Quickie Review

Cover:
I like the cover, but the cover models are nothing like I imagined, and their poses are awkward to me, and a bit backward.

Story:
Loved it. I have to admit there is not much originality. It follows typical New Adult formula. However, said formula exists because readers love it, and Willis rocks that formula.

Pacing:
Summer’s Temptation is fast paced and not overly detailed, and this is what I prefer from contemporary romance. Info dumps and meticulous detail are not necessary to this genre, and only weigh it down. I appreciate that Willis was able to keep it light without making it fluffy.

Characters:
  • Cassie:

I liked Cassie. She’s had her heartbroken but she pushes through it and finds her own way to cope, without wallowing in self-pity, which a lot of characters in her situation seem to do.

  • Tyler:

Tyler is one of my favorite heroes in recent reads. He does have a bit of a bad boy edge to him, but by the end it’s clear that he isn’t your typical bad boy who is suddenly brought to his knees out of nowhere. It was a refreshing way to handle his type of character.

What’s to Come:
I have to say I’m disappointed in the fact that this is a series. I thought it stood well on its own, and I don’t want to see wrenches thrown into Cassie & Tyler’s relationship. I’ll most likely pass on the sequel and wait for Ashley’ s next story.
