Can first love turn into the real deal in a sizzling new Fool's Gold story from New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery? Isabel Carlisle thinks she's cursed in the romance department. Her teenage crush, Ford Hendrix, ignored all her letters. Her husband left her for another...man. So Isabel has come home to dust off her passion for fashion and run the family bridal shop until her parents are ready to sell it. Then she'll pursue her real dreams. At least, that's the plan, until sexy, charming Ford returns and leaves her feeling fourteen all over again....
Seeing Isabel all grown up hits bodyguard trainer Ford like a sucker punch. Back when heartbreak made him join the military, her sweet letters kept him sane. Now he can't take his eyes-or his lips-off her. The man who gave up on love has a reason to stay in Fool's Gold forever-if three little words can convince Isabel to do the same....
Where have I been? I had no idea Susan Mallery's Fool's Gold series was up to book #12. I forgot how much I love Susan Mallery's writing, and the characters she creates. Also, a big bonus, I do not have to read the books in order for me to understand, or keep up with the Fool's Gold world and its characters. I jumped right into Three Little Words and did not feel lost or confused one bit.
Isabel and Ford have to be one of my favorite characters in a contemporary romance ever. The story kicks off with Isabel, a fourteen year old girl in love with her sister's ex-fiancé. Ford is off in the military and after having his heart broken by Isabel's older sister… he refuses to reply to any of Isabel's letters. Not caring one bit, she continues to write him throughout the years.
When Ford finally returns to Fool's Gold, it was almost as if him and Isabel known each other for a long time. Their first meeting was hilarious, and I loved how quickly they became friends and later on a couple. It was written perfectly and developed at a great pace. It was so much fun reading about these two and watching them fall in love. I haven't laughed this hard while reading a book in so long!
Isabel and Ford have one of those relationships where they are both straightforward with one another, and neither one was embarrassed to share what's on their mind. I almost didn't want them to become an official couple because I knew the book would be coming to an end soon. I couldn't get enough of the two.
There is also a subplot where a romance develops between Ford’s brother, Kent, and their friend Consuelo. Their story is interesting because Consuelo is a kick-butt character who isn't afraid to get down and dirty. She fights her own battles and seems like she is a very confident girl. But when it comes to men, she was completely clueless. She is gorgeous, but has no clue just how gorgeous.
Three Little Words has brought out the love I have for Susan Mallery’s books all over again. This book made me laugh and gave me butterflies. I blushed and craved more when the story was over. I have a lot of catching up to do with this series and cannot wait!

It's a another summer hit that sizzles by Susan Mallery!
ReplyDeleteWow, talk about having a wonderful summer! Susan Mallery does it again with Three Little Words. How could you not love Ford Hendrix and Isabel Beebe? They have to be some of her best characters yet. Isabel was in love with Ford when she was just 14 years old and he was engaged to her sister. After things fell through with Isabel's sister Ford leaves Fool's Gold for the Navy and doesn't return till many years later. You could say fate has brought them back into town at the same time and allows Isabel her chance at her first and only love. This book also gives you the story about Consuelo and Kent Hendrix with their story. What a wonderful book and a great way to end the summer!
thanks for the fantastic post and giveaway! I have to be able to dive into the story and lose track of time :) Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWow- amazing! My favorite thing about contemporary romances are seeing women like myself (independent, quirky, adult) but somewhat more witty, make their way in the world. A 5 star is when that happens, and the believable character doesn't NEED love to be happy or successful in her life....but rather, finds a man worthy of her, to be her helpmeet and partner, has a lovely courtship/verbal sparring with him.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read this one yet but I love Susan Mallery's work.
ReplyDeleteAlways characters you can relate to and leaves you feeling good.
wow 12 books? That's insane!! I haven't read any of her books but if I ever finish Jill Shalvis's lucky harbor and want more contemporary I'll definitely start reading her!

Love her books! Cant wait to read this one! I do like that there more relatable and plausible. What makes them 5 stars, I like when theres somewhat of a challenge in them. Where its not just you meet and everythings perfect. It makes for a better story when theres a little drama.

ReplyDeleteWhat I love the most about contemporary romance is being able to immerse myself into a beautifully romantic story that I can relate to and that deeply touches my heart!

I guess what I like most about contemporary romances is that you can relate to them. You can understand the world and times that they live in because you live in them too. You may not live in the same situations, but you can understand them. What makes it a 5 star for me is good characters, a good story that moves along at a good pace, romance, love, preferably some humor. If it is something that I don't want to put down to sleep or even to walk my dogs, it could be my next 5 star favorite :)

Love the Fool's Gold series. Three Little Words is no exception. Two romances in one book makes for the perfect hot summer read.
ReplyDeleteThe thing I love the most about romances is when I can get those butterfly feelings in my stomach when reading it. To make it a five-star I like funny, down to earth main characters. - Colleen Fowler starbirdfan at hotmail dot com
ReplyDeleteI love that you can get lost in the characters story and their happy endings.

I love contemporary romance because it's so easy to relate to for me. It gives me hope for the future as well, if I'm completely honest!
ReplyDeleteI loved Three Little Words! This year's FG books have been the best yet!
ReplyDeleteWhat woman couldn't use a little extra romance in her life? That's what I love about contemporary romance. It takes you away from reality for a little while, and sometimes, it even helps you fan the flames in your real life.
ReplyDeleteFive stars for realistic but warm, lovable characters. A guy who isn't a bad guy and a strong woman who gets swept off her feet by the right guy.
They are easy to relate to, they revolve around stories we can all understand. In Three Little Words, Isabel is embarassed by the letters that she wrote Ford, the sweet part is Ford has kept everyone and reread them, they sustained him through some of the worst times. I have kept every love letter I received they are music for your heart.
ReplyDeleteAlways love returning to Fool's Gold. It is like returning home!! I love starting my summer reading a new Fool's Gold book!! Just One Kiss, Two of a Kind, & Three Little Words are all great books to read.
ReplyDeleteI love romances with well developed characeters and charming settings! Like Fools Gold!
