The Eternity Cure by Julie Kagawa Blog Tour and Giveaway!

As most of you know by now, the ladies of GCR are HUGE fans of Julie Kagawa! We love all her books and have raved about her from the very beginning -- I even have a picture of she and I at BEA 2012!

As such, we are super excited to be a part of The Eternity Cure blog tour! And to top it all off -- instead of having Julie write for every single tour stop, the Bloggers on the tour have been lucky enough to get to write our own post based on the book. I find this to be really fun, and have been reading all the other bloggers' posts -- I find it fascinating what everyone else has been writing about.

But before you read my post -- here is a little more about The Eternity Cure:

Author: Julie Kagawa Series: Blood of Eden #2 Published: April 30th, 2013

You won’t want to miss book 2 in Julie Kagawa’s dystopian masterpiece, Blood of Eden, optioned for a movie by Palomar Pictures.
How do you face the end of eternity?
In Allison Sekemoto’s world, there is one rule left: Blood calls to blood.
She has done the unthinkable: died so that she might continue to live. Cast out of Eden and separated from the boy she dared to love, Allie will follow the call of blood to save her creator, Kanin, from the psychotic vampire Sarren. But when the trail leads to Allie’s birthplace in New Covington, what Allie finds there will change the world forever-and possibly end human and vampire existence.

Vampire vs. Human?!

If by chance, this is your first stop on the tour, then I should tell you that the theme of the Tour is Vampire vs. Human!
And I had a question posed to me for this tour: Who would I rather be: a Human together with Zeke in Eden or a Vampire facing Eternity with Allie and Kanin?

What a hard freakin' question!! I mean, there are pros and cons to both sides, right? You can be a human -- with all your emotions, struggling everyday to survive (even if you're in Eden) and wondering what's left of humanity right outside your doorstep. Or you could be a Vampire -- immensely strong, no soft emotions holding you back, and essentially living on top of the world.

Allie tries her best to straddle the line in-between both worlds. She has found herself with this awesome vampire strength, but continues to hold onto her human emotions. What a hard life to try to live and yet, who can blame her? How easy can it be to let go of the only life you've ever known?

So here's my answer. If someone told me that I had to choose, right here, right now:
I'd rather be a human with Zeke in Eden! (Don't hate me!)

Here's why:
The human psyche is so complicated. We can love as fiercely as we can hate. We fight with all our might and we risk our lives constantly for those we love. Vampires just can't do that. Even with characters like Kanin -- who sometimes seems to care deeply for Allie -- there will always be a part of him that is all about self-preservation. Always a part of him that would rather turn off the emotions, and save himself rather than anyone else.

But humans -- human beings and their power to love can never be rivaled. And Allie's love for Zeke (our love for Zeke as a reader) can never be broken. No matter how much they hurt you, no matter how many obstacles life throws at you -- the one constant will always be that you have your love. You had someone by your side who made life worth living and worth dying for. Who could ask for more?

So I guess when push comes to shove -- I'm on the side of HUMAN!

About the Author

Julie Kagawa was born in Sacramento, California. But nothing exciting really happened to her there. So, at the age of nine she and her family moved to Hawaii, which she soon discovered was inhabited by large carnivorous insects, colonies of house geckos and frequent hurricanes. She spent much of her time in the ocean, when she wasn’t getting chased out of it by reef sharks, jellyfish and the odd eel.

To pay the rent, Julie worked in different bookstores over the years, but discovered the managers frowned upon her reading the books she was supposed to be shelving. So she turned to her other passion: training animals. She worked as a professional dog trainer for several years, dodging Chihuahua bites and overly enthusiastic Labradors, until her first book sold and she stopped training to write full-time.

Julie now lives in Louisville, Kentucky, where the frequency of shark attacks are at an all-time low. She lives with her husband, two obnoxious cats, one Australian shepherd who is too smart for his own good and the latest addition, a hyperactive Papillon puppy.

  1. I think vampires have so much potential. They can embody so many human characteristics whereas humans would find it very difficult to take on vampiric traits.
