The
Movies in Our Minds: A Casting Call for Characters
Even though writing is obviously
all about putting words on a blank page, a lot of writers talk about how
sometimes the stories play out like movies in our heads. It’s fun to have
pictures to refer to while writing. The right picture can conjure up scene
ideas, help keep character descriptions consistent (what color were her eyes
again?) and also be very inspiring -- especially pictures of the hot hero!
January’s Harlequin Nocturne
Cravings has two intriguing couples: a witch and a cop from Elle James and a fairy
and a cowboy from Jessa Slade. When Hollywood finally gets around to calling
us, here’s who we’ll suggest to play our heroes and heroines:
Elle James (also writing as Myla
Jackson): Casting for THE WITCH’S SEDUCTION
Deme Chattox is the oldest of the
Chattox sisters, red-haired, tough and has an amazing amount of attitude. Of
the five sister's her talent runs in the earth point of the pentagram. And
she's been in love with Cal Black for a while, just afraid he will never
understand or accept her for what she is...a witch. When looking for a
red-haired actress to play this part, I was torn between a few different women.
Emma Stone stood out. She looks good as a red-head, can be very sexy and has a
ton of attitude. I think she'd play the part of the sexy, oldest of the Chattox
sisters and has the ability to pull off the magical side of the role.
Cal Black is a dark, handsome,
leather-clad cop with swagger. He's been assigned to work on the paranormal
investigative team and work with his love Deme. Channing Tatum could play the
part of Cal. He's sexy, muscular and could pull off a cop vibe easily. And
wouldn't he look good in a leather jacket, astride a rumbling beast of a
motorcycle?
Jessa Slade: Casting for A LITTLE
NIGHT MUSE
Adelyn is a musetta, a delicate kind of fey creature, who reluctantly finds
herself exiled to the wilds of Eastern Oregon in late winter. It’s a harsh
place for her, but it also teaches her strength. I think Bollywood actress
Deepika Padukone would make an excellent Adelyn. Not only does she have the
otherworldly beauty, but her sometimes wary eyes and a sense of strength at her
core fit the out-of-her-element Adelyn.
Josh
Reimer has his ranch, his horse and his dog…as well as a deep loneliness in his
heart and the hands of an artist. How lucky was I to find a picture of Aussie
actor Simon Baker with a horse? If only the picture had Simon out of that stiff
suit. Sigh. Josh favors snug denim (ahem) and warm flannel sheets. But don’t we
all? ;)
Don’t you think the world needs
more paranormal romance movies? We get plenty of explosions and monsters in our
paranormal movies, but we need more kissing! Who would play your favorite
romance hero? Leave a comment for a chance to win a print copy of WITCH'S
INITIATION by Elle James and meet Deme and Cal for the first time, and the
first ebook in Jessa Slade’s Steel Born series, DARK HUNTER’S TOUCH.

Elle James
Deme Chattox is eager to return home and start her new job on the Chicago PD's paranormal task force. As a witch, she's got special insight into the city's supernatural underworld. And as an added bonus, her partner is also her lover, Cal Black.Deme can't wait to pick up where their off-the-charts chemistry left off, but she senses a change in Cal. A LITTLE NIGHT MUSE
Jessa SladeConvicted of treason, Adelyn has been banished to the sunlit realm of humans—a fate worse than death for a musetta who exists only to inspire other phae. To reverse her exile, she must find a pair of lovers who have fled the court and return them to face the Queen's wrath. But once in the mortal realm, she meets a man who unveils her hidden desires…When Josh Reimer discovers an ethereal beauty at a cabin near his ranch, he decides the neighborly thing to do is take her in. Adelyn inspires a passion unlike anything he's ever known and he vows not to lose the magic they've found together—even if that means she must choose between her home and their love.
I can honestly do without the PNR movies. I like the books so much more :).

Victoria, I think romance movies are hard because of all the thinking that goes on. It takes a special director... like, say, Peter Jackson ;)
DeleteThank you, Good Choice Reading, for giving us a place to spread the words!
ReplyDeleteNice cast of characters. I would pay to watch those movies, just to drool. : )
ReplyDeleteGreat post and you two are two amazing authors. Keep the stories coming in 2013. It just might be your big hollywood year.
Lynda
LKF, I think if superhero movies are doing so well, certain witches and fey can't be far behind!
DeleteThank you for having such a lovely contest... I think most of these books though will end up as a gift to my daughter in law. I keep her in books, and she continues to keep my son. I think it's a very fair trade. LOL
ReplyDeleteNoraA, LOL! Sounds like an excellent trade. She gets romance novels AND a real-life hero. (Hey, he's the son of a book buyer; he MUST be a hero!)
DeleteThere is a couple of them that I could think, from BDBs to Thomas to Mr Bones & many more.
ReplyDeleteOoh, Bones on the big screen... Yeah, I'd watch that. Repeatedly ;)
DeleteThanks for a fun post and congrats to the ladies on the new releases! They sound fantastic! Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Erin!

ReplyDeleteThanks to Good Choice Reading for letting us come out to play! We hope you will visit our books and let us know what you think. We like to hear from readers, it helps us hone our craft and keep the great stories coming!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, we definitely need more paranormal romance movies! I'd love to be entered to win these, they sound fantastic.
ReplyDeleteMartha, romantic comedies do so well financially that I can't believe Hollywood hasn't come looking for more romance subgenres. Get on it, Hollywood!
DeleteWe always need more paranormal romance movies and novels. T hanks for the giveaway. Please enter me. Tore923@aol.com
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Tore!
DeleteI like your picks of actors for your books. I know both of them and I used Simon Baker for the prototype of my hero in BRIDLED HEART so he does make a good cowboy character. LOL The actresses I don't know, but from your reason they sound like great fits.
ReplyDeleteMmm, cowboy heroes... ;)
DeleteRichard Armitage or Matthew Bomer for almost any dark haired hero. They're both beautiful and amazing actors with range. Jennifer Garner for the strong, beautiful heroine. Amy Acker for the willowy, delicate heroine.
ReplyDeleteAquarianDancer at gmail dot com
I didn't know Matthew Bomer, but now that I do, thanks for the visuals!
DeleteWhat fun to "cast" our leading men and women. I've cast Gerard Butler in my WIP, Too Close for Comfort. He is such a bad boy, but can be good when he wants to be.

Always an excellent choice. Very inspiring ;)
DeleteElle, I am not familiar with your books so I'm glad that Jessa has drawn me into this circle. By the way your latest cover is truly yummy. Jessa already knows I own everything she's written. I was VERY pleased to see Simon Baker cast. I love his character on The Mentalist and I could definitely see him as a cowboy. I must admit, all the others I know nothing about.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your releases ladies. I hope you get lots of new readers.
More eye candy for Maggie! And books for her shelf too LOL!
DeleteI would have Dominic Purcell play a hero part. As for the heroine part probably Julia Roberts or Jessica Alba
ReplyDeleteEva, I've always liked Dominic's furrowed brow. Love a brooding hero :)
DeleteBradley Cooper as Zsadist from the BDB series
ReplyDeletebn100candg(at)hotmail(dot)com
Ah, nice, bn100 :) Actually, that would be a good role for him to show some range. And chest!
DeleteHey!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great selection.Kate Winslet has such a strong presence also in her movies. I also love the idea of Fey and a Cowboy. :) Thanks for the opportunity to read these great sounding books.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year...

Looking forward to reading this book.Have an amazing weekend
ReplyDeleteI love "casting" characters! I take it way too seriously.
ReplyDeleteI love the PNR, books or movies.
ReplyDeleteI'm bad about favoring the tall, dark and muscled (is that a word?), esp if they have a bit of an accent, like Gerard Butler, Hugh Jackman, Matthew MacFadyen, or even Scott Speedman (from the Underworld movies).
For the ladies, maybe Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Alba would be my pick.
Thanks for the great giveaway!
Looks like something i can get into!!
