100 Best Teen Novels - EVER
Whether you're a tween who is just picking up your first "good" book, an actual young adult sitting in your favorite aisle at the bookstore, or an adult-adult (you know, those of us who have jobs, kids, bills, etc...LOL), it wouldn't surprise anyone if we all reached for the same Y.A. novel. at the same time. The Y.A. book market has been exploding for decades now, and in my opinion, has completely skyrocketed off the charts. Y.A. books are an easy escape from reality for people of all ages; they are exciting, filled with the teenage angst we've all gone through (or are going through) and many times, even focus on forbidden love or apocalyptic times.
That's why, personally, I am ridiculously excited about National Public Radio's (NPR) announcement of the 100 Best Y.A. Novels...EVER! After enduring thousands of suggestions, narrowing those suggestions down to just a few hundred, and allowing anyone to vote (for up to 10 books), they have wittled down the best of the best. The list is filled with some of the newer novels we all know and love (Harry Potter, of course!) to some true-blue classics (To Kill a Mockingbird).
Here was their process in bringing the list down to size: they considered a book's popularity - based on how many people nominated it to be on the list, and the question of how well the book truly fit into the Y.A. category (book's theme, age of characters, reading level, etc...).
Here is the FINAL list they just released today!! (P.S. They do know that number 33 and 44 are missing) (You can also view it on their site by clicking here)
