When is an Empire not an Empire? When it rules the West, the North, and the East, but the Death-White Border to the South must never be breached...

The Empress, all darkness and allure, has betrayed the Emperor. Raeche does not know what the cruel and calculating warrior will do when the baby growing in her belly is born and Lanus discovers it is not his. Only... when the child is born, she is the image of the Emperor. Raeche is shocked... and intrigued. The game is afoot. The Emperor's trickery becomes unique seduction as the keys to the true Empire are unlocked.

Warning: Scenes of graphic violence and sexual situations.

Ok I have mixed feelings about this book. While I enjoyed the idea of it and there was a alot of good, there was alot of confusion for me. So I am not sure if I liked or did not like this book....

I loved the seduction game played by Lanus. He wants his wife so bad, but wants her to want him just as bad. Knowing if he just gives in she will make a fool of him. Lanus feels they must truly connect on a deeper level for the empire to be safe and powerful. I loved the connection these two had, a true game of cat in mouse in the bedroom.

Raeche has been born to be the Emperor's wife and not a person of her own. Having a bad childhood and a resentful mother Raeche has grown up to want to be a rebellious person. Upon marring Lanus she leans how to be so bold, but at a cost that could ruin her end her life.

What I did not like is what left me so confused. They all have whats is called spirit and call upon it throughout the book. My guess is that it is supposed to be like magic? I found many of the names hard to pronounce and the book seems to jump in time too quickly.

3 out 5 stars
