I’m a sucker for series. As a reader, I love revisiting characters and worlds, seeing secondary characters find their own in love and life. As a writer…I’m cursed. Seriously. I can’t think of a single book I’ve written that a secondary character hasn’t started whispering to me, telling me their story and urging me to share it with the world. Not all of them have evolved into series but a number of them have.
My vampire series, Into the Shadows, started as a short for a Halloween collection, then before I knew it, I had a world of characters living in my head and fighting for the next book. How could I resist the hero’s partner? He was sweet and kind to the heroine and had a great sense of humor. But underneath it, there was a pain I wanted to know about. Who had caused it, what was he hiding from everyone around him under the laughter and jokes?
Then there was the heroine’s brother who had been turned into a vampire against his will. Oh boy… *rubs hands together* Seriously? How could I NOT write his story? I had to give him someone who would not only push back when he tried to push her away, but who would help him heal and grow beyond the angsty, angry man he’d become.
As a reader, I have many series I consistently buy. Too many to count, really, but some of my favorites include the In Death series by JD Robb (as well as the numerous trilogies she writes under Nora Roberts), the Dark Hunters series by Sherrilyn Kenyon, Black Dagger Brotherhood by JR Ward, the Dark series by Christine Feehan, Kuchiel’s Legacy series by Jacqueline Carey, all of Shelly Laurenston/GA Aiken’s series… See what I mean, I can go on and on!
I’d love to hear what some of your favorite series are and why you love them so much?

ReplyDeleteOMG! There are so many, and most of them are on your list.
ReplyDeleteI have every Christine Feehan, JD Robb, JR Ward, and Sherrilyn Kenyon book on my bookshelf. And they have all been read multiple times! I love it when the characters grab your attention and make you keep reading. And then they make you so impatient for the next book to be released!
I love the Anita Blake series, Sookie Stackhouse series, and Rachel Morgan series. I have been following them from book one and continue now umteen books later. I eagerly wait each year for the new installment and even pay the price on the preorders LOL I love a series that makes me like the characters protagonists and secondary characters. For me it is like that Christmas letter that comes once a year from a long time friend giving you that opportunity to catch up on what has been going on in their lives. I can never get enough and am always hungry for more. Thank you for sharing today and for the lovely giveaway opportunity.

I'm also a sucker for a series -- there are too many to list them all! The worst part is I keep adding MORE! I follow all the ones you've listed, as well as the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews (Kate & Curran are SO great together), The Iron Druid series by Kevin Hearne (LOVE Atticus and Oberon!), The Chronicles of Elantra by Michelle Sagara (this is one of my faves & I can't get enough of her stories & world-building), the Persephone Alcmedi series by Linda Robertson, the Downside Ghosts series by Stacia Kane and the Kara Gillian series by Diana Rowland are some of my more recent series addictions, and the list keeps getting longer!!

So many were mentioned, but BDB, DH, Mercy and Alpha & Omega by Patricia Briggs, Women of the Otherworld by Kelley Armstrong, Cat & Bones, Immortals after Dark, Lords of the Underworld, Eternal Guardians by Elisabeth Naughton. Thanks for the giveway!
ReplyDeleteOne my fav series is the Hot Ice series by Lily Harlem. Before reading it I'd never really been into reading sports romances but this series totally changed my mind because it blends the pieces of romance and sports so well. They are erotic which I don't mind one bit either:)

My favorite series is The Gone Series by Michael Grant. It is fascinating to see how the author has the children solve all the daily living problems that crop up as a result of their parents' disappearances.
ReplyDeleteJD Robb's In Death series is one of my favorites as well. Alexandra Ivy's Guardian's of Eternity and BDB, Dark Hunters, Immortals After Dark and Brenda Joyce's Master's Of Time to name a few. Thanks for the opportunity.

Hi! Nice post! The book cover really makes me want to read it! Don't enter me into the giveaway cause I'm from Canada, but I wanted to answer Jess question: I didn't know that Nora Roberts was the same author of In Death series as JD Robb! I'm in love with BDB series by J.R Ward and Immortals After Dark by Kresley Cole!
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of series that I follow including those by Larissa Ione, Cherise Sinclair, Kallypso Masters, Eve Langlais, Lynsay Sands, Kerrilyn Sparks, Katie MacAlister, and I am just starting the Midnight Breed (Lara Adrian) and BDB (JR Ward series (along with many others). I love series. They allow you to get more into the characters, the world, ect. You fall in love with secondary characters and want them to get their HEA and you want to get updates on previous loved characters.
