Jess is Sick:
Jess was not in school today. As soon as I got home, I called her, and she did
not answer, but a few minutes later she called me back. She sounded terrible. She said
that she has a sore throat, fever and is throwing up. She only talked for a minute and
then had to go. This stinks… she is really sick, and Spring Break has officially started. I
hope she feels better soon and doesn’t miss out on too much. We have been waiting for
this for weeks!
Not much else happened today. The last day of school for Spring Break you
typically don’t do much other than watch movies and talk about what you are going to
do over vacation. There were no tests or homework assignments given out.
When I got home, Megan and Mark were in the den watching Man vs. Food,
and Mikey was in his room organizing all of his baseball stuff. He still has practice over
Spring Break and a game tomorrow. I told him I would play catch with him, and he
grabbed his stuff while I went to my room to get my glove.
I like playing catch with Mikey; he is pretty good and takes it pretty seriously, so I
don’t have to spend the whole time chasing balls.
I grabbed a water and met him out in the backyard. We put our gloves on and
started tossing the ball back and forth to warm up.
“So, Mikey, any big plans for Spring Break?” I asked.
“I have two games and two practices over the break,” he responded. “I am
supposed to get together with Cayden and Justin… Probably spend the night, play
video games and basketball.”
We started to get further away from each other and throw a little harder.
“That sounds fun! I’m supposed to hang out with Jess and Jimmy, but Jess is
sick, so I don’t know if that will still happen.”
“What is wrong with Jess?”
Mikey and Jess have a pretty close relationship. I guess because she and I have
been friends for so long, he has pretty much grown up with her around. She is like
another big sister to him, but one that is nice to him and doesn’t boss him around.
“Just your basic nightmare,” I replied. ”Fever, sore throat, and throwing up…
She sounded pretty miserable when I talked to her.”
“I hope she gets better soon. It would stink to be sick over the break!”
“Yeah, hopefully it doesn’t last the whole break. I guess Jimmy and I will still
hang out, but it will be kind of weird. It’s usually the three of us together,” I said, and
threw the ball as hard as I could. Mikey caught it - no problem. Then he returned the ball as hard as he could. Ouch… the boy has an arm!
