Tons of Book News This Week!

This Saturday we'd like to share SEVEN pieces of news for you....

FIFTY SHADES OF GREY TAKES OVER!
So two weeks ago, we featured Fifty Shades of Grey in our Saturday Book News....remember? At that time, it was just some crazy book that was taking the female world by storm since it had some pretty heated x-rated scenes.

Well, since that time, this book has completely taken over the media world! It is being talked about as "Mommy Porn" or even "Twilight for Grown-Ups" and has been blogged, tweeted and talked about all over. And now, American publishers have just finished a battle over the rights to re-release the book with major fanfare.

This week, Vintage Books, part of Knopf Doublday, won the bidding war and own the rights to all three books - paying E.L. James somewhere in the seven-figures. On Monday, new e-book editions of the trilogy will be released, and later on in the year, a 750,000-copy print run will be released.

AMAZON CHILDREN'S PUBLISHING LANDS FIRST BOOK!

Amazon Children's Publishing has landed their first YA novel - Kiss & Make Up by Katie D. Anderson. The book is set to be released in October 2012. Although this is Anderson's debut novel, a six-figure deal was involved as Amazon acquired the world English and audio rights.

Kiss & Make Up is a story about a 16-yr-old girl named Emerson Taylor who has the gift of being able to read anyone's mind who kisses her.
So far, no major promotion or publicity for the book has been announced, but Amazon did promise to bring Anderson to BEA this year.

With the help of organizations like Operation Gratitude and Books for Heroes, 20,000 carton of books (with 10 books per carton) are being shipped worldwide to our troops.

On Thursday, Patterson told the Associated Press that he didn't think the soldiers "get the appreciation they deserve."

ENCYCLOPEDIA BRITANNICA TO STOP PRINT EDITION!

There seems to be one piece of news each week that just makes me so sad. This one would definitely be it.

After 244 (yes, 244) years of print publication, the Encyclopedia Britannica will now be strictly available online.

With newspapers and print books also in decline, I can't help but feel like we're losing out on something special here as the world "advances".

Does This Make You Sad? Does It Not Even Affect You?

NEW VAMPIRE NOVEL WITH A CLASSIC TOUCH!

Ethan Peasley, author of Immortal Touch, is attempting to return the vampire genre to its original roots. "The first book I ever read cover to cover was Bram Stocker's Dracula," said Peasley, "and that really affected me because I enjoyed Dracula more than any other character, and it made me want to read more and more books that had vampires in it. That evolved into watching vampire movies and eventually, writing my own vampire stuff."

Immortal Touch focuses on Asael - a vampire who was once a man - who now drinks blood to stay alive and is haunted by memories. He lives with others of his kinds, but when their resting place is attacked and they stand on the cusp of death, Asael is prepared to change the face of humanity forever. Peasley says, "I think Immortal Touch will appeal to reads because it is a fresh take on vampires and it takes the modern view of vampires, which seems to view vampires as emotional and struggling with their inner demons, and the older view which is my personal favorite: the vampire that is just a killing machine."

CASSANDRA CLARE TO RELEASE A NEW SERIES!

Cassandra Clare has landed a deal for a new young adult series called The Dark Artificies. An imprint of Simon & Schuster - Margaret K. McElderry Books - will release the first book in 2015.

This will be Clare's third Shadownhunter series - the same world featured in The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices.

"Set against the glittering backdrop of present-day Los Angeles, the series follows Emma Carstairs, the fiercest warrior and most skilled Shadowhunter since Jace Wayland, and Emma's sworn partner in arms, Julian Blackthorn. Despite Emma's complicated feelings for Julian, the two must band together to investigate a demonic plot that stretches from the warlock-run nightclubs of the Sunset Strip to the enchanted sea that pounds the beaches of Santa Monica."
