Vee Bell is certain of one irrefutable truth—her sister’s friend Sophie didn’t kill herself. She was murdered.

Vee knows this because she was there. Everyone believes Vee is narcoleptic, but she doesn’t actually fall asleep during these episodes: When she passes out, she slides into somebody else’s mind and experiences the world through that person’s eyes. She’s slid into her sister as she cheated on a math test, into a teacher sneaking a drink before class. She learned the worst about a supposed “friend” when she slid into her during a school dance. But nothing could have prepared Vee for what happens one October night when she slides into the mind of someone holding a bloody knife, standing over Sophie’s slashed body.

Vee desperately wishes she could share her secret, but who would believe her? It sounds so crazy that she can’t bring herself to tell her best friend, Rollins, let alone the police. Even if she could confide in Rollins, he has been acting off lately, more distant, especially now that she’s been spending more time with Zane.

Enmeshed in a terrifying web of secrets, lies, and danger and with no one to turn to, Vee must find a way to unmask the killer before he or she strikes again.

          My Thoughts:

When I first read about Slide, I found the concept of it appealing. A girl who was wrongly diagnosed as narcoleptic can actually slide into the minds of certain people. I find the idea of sliding quite unique and intriguing. I haven't read another book like this before. And as creepy as it sounds I would like that ability. But of course if it's something I can control. I would like to slide into my son's mind and see what he does in school. See if he's actually behaving as he claims he is. I know, I'm a little weird.

I think the author did a good job making her characters believable. The usual teenage high school drama was very much present in this story. But the characters I enjoyed the most were Vee and her sister. Two sisters who aren't very close but turn to each other when the tough got going. While trying to help her little sister Mattie cope with the death of her friends, Vee also has to deal with her "narcoleptic" slides alone. As the story progresses she learns a bit more about handling her sliding. Now if she can just uncover the mystery of who is the actual killer.

There were a few twists, in which I did see one coming but the actual ending took me completely off guard. I suspected something was up but didn't predict it. And that's something I like in books. I don't always want to predict the ending. If you want to experience a different kind of paranormal, pick up Slide. I give this book is a 4 out of 5 stars and a Good Choice for Reading.

  1. Have you read The Wake Trilogy? This sounds (superficially) similar - but with Wake, she slides into people's dreams. If you have, curious to know how they compare.

    1. Of course I did. I love Lisa Mcmann. This one is bit different. In this one she doesn't share her "Sliding" with anyone and her Sliding is causes by her touching something of the person she slides to. There's going to be a part two so it should be interesting where she takes this book.

Thank you for the review and you know, I don't think it's weird of you! It would be interesting to be able to do that.

  4. I love the concept of this book. It is definitely one I will want to read. I hate when I'm reading a book and it's so predictable that I feel there is no point in finishing it. I'm glad to see there were twists that you didn't see coming.

    1. Honestly to me it wasn't predictable. But to my fellow blogger Amanda found it predictable. So the call would be yours to make when you read the book.

  5. I've never heard of this book before, or a book with a similar premise, but it sounds really interesting. Sliding sounds like something that, if written well, could be compelling to read about and I'm really intrigued by the idea. I'm glad this book doesn't fall into the usual traps YA high school based books do, and I'm looking forward to meeting the characters. Thanks so much for this review! I'll definitely have to check out SLIDE soon!
