Twilight, The Musical? / Game of Thrones / Most Expensive Book in the World!

This Saturday we'd like to share FIVE pieces of news for you....

TWILIGHT...THE MUSICAL?

Alright, alright, don't get too excited...or appalled, but there will be a one-night-only staged reading of Twilight: The Musical. It will make an off-Broadway debut on January 16, and the proceeds will benefit the charity Blessings in a Backpack.

You can find a few clips of the show on YouTube, as it originally premiered last year in NYC. Some of the opening lyrics are, "Nothing ever happens in Forks" and "I wish I had a boyfriend."  I know that you all are laughing hysterically at this point, but the show might do really well. After all, they did make a successful "A Very Potter Musical", so who knows!

Will You Be Checking This Out?

GAME OF THRONES EXCERPT!
Fans of George R.R. Martin can start squealing now! He has just released a previously unpublished sample chapter from the upcoming sixth book in the series: The Winds of Winter on his website

The author also said that a different sample chapter will be released in the paperback edition of "A Dance with Dragons" (due out in July). A release date has yet to be issued for The Winds of Winter or the last book in the series: A Dream of Spring.

Any GCR Followers Plan on Reading the Excerpt?

KINDLES FLY OFF THE SHELVES!
According to a statement released on Thursday by Amazon, their kindle products have had the best holiday season yet. During the month of December, more than a million kindles flew off of the shelves.

As was expected, the new Kindle Fire tablet topped the list, while the Kindle Touch and the original Kindle were at numbers two and three. The Kindle Fire has been the bestselling and the "most gifted" product on Amazon since its debut 13 weeks ago.

Did You Get a Kindle Over the Holidays?

DYSTOPIAN NOVELS TAKING OVER!
I want to share this great editorial on dystopian novels written by Saci Loyd, and published by The Guardian.

The article starts off with news that Moira Young's new dystopian novel: Blood Red Road has just won the Costa Children's Book Award. The Costa Book Awards is one of the UK's most prestigious and popular literary prizes, and recognizes some of the most enjoyable books of the year by writers based in the UK and Ireland.

Loyd then goes further into his article and discusses why dystopian novels seems to have taken off. He writes, "It's amazing to see an international array of world authors, armed only with a bit of sexy science and a couple of near-future scenarios, taking on the big issues of today and weaving them into gripping tales that young adults love to read."

I encourage everyone to read the full article, here

What Do You Think of Dysoptian Novels?

THE MOST EXPENSIVE BOOK IN THE WORLD!
Here's a little tidbit of information you might need for Trivial Pursuit one day, lol. A copy of John James Audubon's Birds of North America is expected to sell for somewhere between $7 million and $10 million when it goes up for auction this month.

In 2010, a copy sold for about $11 million in London, and that set a new record for a single book. Birds of north America is a rare and beautiful book. Audubon only produced 120 copies of the book - which is three-feet tall and two-feet wide and features 435 hand-drawn illustrations.

I'd Like to See that Book Up Close One Day :)

  1. I think that a Twilight musical would be hilarious and entertaining. It's not surprising that Dystopians are getting a lot of attention. There are so many great ones out there.

  3. Yeah, I'm not so sure about a Twilight musical, but you're right A Very Harry Potter Musical had great success.
My boyfriend actually bought me a Kindle Fire for Christmas. I LOVE it! Best Christmas present ever!

  4. Enjoyed the bookish news! I am a Kindle Fire Christmas gift recipient. And now I am trying to decide how to accessorize. Need a nice durable cover because I am petrified of dropping it.

  5. We (hubby and I) bought a Kindle Fire as a joint Christmas present. We had it for 2 weeks then sent it back.

I already have a Kindle so I wasn't interested in replacing that but we were interested in using it as a Tablet. It's nothing like an iPad. We've decided that's probably what we'll get instead. For the price, we figured we owed the Fire a chance.
