Take Your Child to a Bookstore Day, Christmas Gift Ideas :)

This Saturday we'd like to share FOUR pieces of news for you....

TODAY IS "TAKE YOUR CHILD TO A BOOKSTORE DAY"!

Tomorrow, bookstores in 45 states, 2 Canadian provinces, and even Australia and England will join efforts to take part in "Take Your Child to a Bookstore Day."

This will be the 2nd Annual event, which was started by a mom and blogger named Jenny Milchman. Within a month of conception, Jenny's idea had gone viral and now over 250 bookstores around the country will participate. Some will plan a special theme around the day, others might do discounts or giveaways.

I'm all for teaching our kids the importance of reading!!

MORE BOOK & MOVIE NEWS
The people have spoken! Every day, more and more film studios are deciding to opt in to the Young Adult franchise and turn Y.A. books into films.

The latest bidding war?

It's over Laini Taylor's Daughter of Smoke and Bone. Rumor has it that Paramount studios is willing to pay about $700,000 for the film rights, but are competing with two other studios.

Have any of you read Daughter of Smoke and Bone - is it movie worthy?

COMIC BOOK SELLS FOR OVER $2 MILLION!!

Alright, so it's not really book news, but I thought I would share this piece because it's so cool.

In 1938, it would've only cost you 10 cents to buy the very first issue of Superman comics. In an auction this week, it sold for $2.16  million (that's some crazy inflation there!)

ComicConnect described this issue as "the most important comic book in the history of comics," and added that its unusually good condition added to its value. In 2000, the comic book was stolen from a collector. But it was later found in a storage unit that someone bought (go Storage Wars!)

There are only about 100 issues of Action Comics #1 in existence.

I hope I find the next one, lol!

CHRISTMAS IS A'COMING!

Every Saturday in December, I'm going to try to put up some great gift ideas for the book-lover in your life....or for yourself, whichever :)

This holiday book list comes from MTV, and I think it is awesome!

For the dystopianist: Legend by Marie Lu
If you loved Hunger Games, consider Legend! Mtv says, "This story has everything from classic literary references to a futuristic American landscape." And there will be two more to follow!
Read Guest Reviewer Amanda's Review of Legend

For the future victorian: The Girl in the Steel Corset by Kady Cross
If you loved Clockwork Angel, then you should try this steampunk series set in 19th century England. Mtv says it, "features a fascinating heroine who knocks out her would-be assaulter, joins an underground crimefighting squad and does it all while wearing some seriously complicated underwear."

For Feelings and Fun: Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins
If you or your friend likes books all about love, than this is the gift for him/her. Mtv says, "A follow-up to her smart and sexy first novel, Anna and the French Kiss, this book made us want to move to San Francisco and kiss the first inventive gentleman hottie available."
Read Guest Reviewer Amanda's Review of Lola and the Boy Next Door

For the Fangbanger: Bloodlines by Richelle Mead
Vampires...vampire boyfriends...vampire enemies...if you love 'em, this book is for you! Mtv says, "Richelle's spinoff series (from Vampire Academy) is an obvious pick for the literary lover of all things bloodsucking."

For the Supernatural Romantic: Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
Mtv says, "Laini's soon-to-be trilogy about what happens when an angel and a devil fall in love might actually do better than Twilight. Edward Cullen WHO?"

I hope you got some good ideas from this!
Happy Shopping!!
