Will is a vampire in danger. Heir to the Earl of Mercia, he was brutally attacked and buried in the thirteenth century before he was able to assume his title. Perpetually sixteen, Will’s life has been lonely. He leaves his tomb every so often, adapts to the present day, feeds his bloodlust, and never gets close to anyone.
Until now.
Waking from a twenty-year slumber, hungry for the blood that sustains his undeath, he meets Eloise—but can’t bear to make her his next victim. Drawn to a girl he can never have, but whose fate seems bound with his own, he feels the need to protect her. But Will has an enemy who will stop at nothing to find him .
So first of all - try and tell me that this cover does not make you drool!! I would just like to take this moment to give Egmont USA some serious cover love......
Okay, lol, onto the review! For lack of a more sophisticated way of saying this: Blood was completely awesome! I loved that the romance in the story was not immediate, nor did it encompass the entire story. As a matter of fact, the romance was kind of like a sidenote here. This is the very first Vampire novel I've read that actually reminds us that the human girl (her name is Eloise) is food for the Vampire. In this story, it actually hurts Will to kiss her - and I loved it. It made the romance take a backseat to the rest of the story, which...
Focuses on Will - who has now been a Vampire for over 700 years. But he hates his life. He doesn't go making millions of dollars or drinking people for fun. He's angry that someone stole his life from him at 16 years old, and he actually tries to kill himself during his time just to get away from it all. Talk about your different kind of spin on things!
Throughout the story, we learn that Will was bitten intentionally by someone who knew that in the 21st century, he would meet Eloise and their two destinies would intersect. And while we're learning all this, someone is out to kill him! There are ghosts, killer animals, vampires - fighting - I mean, what else could you want? But who bit him? Why him and not someone else? And what does Eloise have to do with any of this???
Just like you, I'll have to wait to find out :(
But I found this book to be so refreshing, fun and a great read! It comes out on the 27th of this month, so go buy it and LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK!!!
I really enjoyed Blood too :)
