Good Choice Reading would like to welcome author of Blood Rights, Kristen Painter. We recently got the chance to interview Kristen and talk a little about her book, Blood Rights. Enjoy!
There will be five books in total and if things go well (and my editor gives it the green light), I'd love to do a spin off series.
2. Can you give us a quick sneak peek into Chrysabelle's world?
She's a comarre - which is kind of like a blood slave or blood geisha - and she's finally at a place in her life where she thinks she's about to get the freedom she longs for. Of course, she doesn't and chaos ensues. lol
3. I have to ask, is Blood Rights a Young Adult novel or no?
Some say it is and some say it is not. - It's not, not by definition anyway, but I do think a more mature YA reader could certainly get into it. I've read some pretty dark YA, so I'm sure Blood Rights would be just fine for those who like those kinds of stories.
4. Would you ever write a YA series?
Totally! I'd love to. I came close to selling one a few years back and still have several ideas swirling around in my head, so who knows?
5. Did you have to do any type of research while writing Blood Rights?
All kinds of stuff from the history of French executioners to what kind of sounds a panther makes to talking to several friends in the medical field about the properties of blood and using my brother's Coast Guard experience to help me with some of the ship related stuff.
6. If you can match your main characters with an actor/actress, who would they be and why?
I'll be honest in that I don't really do a lot of that, not with celebrities. I am working on a companion site for the House of Comarre series (www.houseofcomarre.com) which isn't finished, but already has a few pics up.
Thank you Kristen so much for stopping by today!

The lacy gold mapped her entire body. A finely-wrought filigree of stars, vines, flowers, butterflies, ancient symbols and words ran from her feet, up her legs, over her narrow waist, spanned her chest and finished down her arms to the tips of her fingers.
Born into a life of secrets and service, Chrysabelle’s body bears the telltale marks of a comarrĂ©—a special race of humans bred to feed vampire nobility. When her patron is murdered, she becomes the prime suspect, which sends her running into the mortal world…and into the arms of Malkolm, an outcast vampire cursed to kill every being from whom he drinks.
Now Chrysabelle and Malkolm must work together to stop a plot to merge the mortal and supernatural worlds. If they fail, a chaos unlike anything anyone has ever seen will threaten to reign.
Great interview this book caught my eye a few weeks ago and I've been seeing it everywhere. I really want to read it.

I agree this is definitely not a YA book.
