DARK DAYS BLOG TOUR: Get to the know the characters of COLD KISS

Good Choice Reading is excited to be apart of the Dark Days Blog Tour. Today we have a post to share with everyone from author of Cold Kiss, Amy Garvey. Enjoy!

Get to Know Wren, Danny, and Gabriel

Three things you don’t know about each of them, plus their favorite book, band, and movie.

Wren:

  1. I don’t usually use a visual or an actress as an inspiration for a character, but if I had to choose I would say Wren probably looks like Ginnfer Goodwin, if she was a slightly punky, slightly gothy girl with untamed hair.
  2. I don’t ever write about people I know, or use them as a basis for a character, but I do use houses and locations all the time. Wren’s house is the house I lived in when I was in high school, and I loved it. Big porch along the front wrapping around one side with a porch swing, 1920s push-button light switches, claw foot tub, and lots of nooks and crannies, including the butler’s pantry where Wren talks on the phone to Jess.
  3. Wren loves to watch ballet when she has a chance. It’s not something she could ever do – early lessons made that pretty clear – but she loves the sheer strength and beauty and poetry of the dancers’ bodies.
  4. Her favorite book is Shirley Jackson’s We Have Always Lived in the Castle.
  5. Her favorite band is K’s Choice, but My Chemical Romance is a very close second.
  6. Her favorite movie is the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, even though she tells people her favorite movie is 28 Days Later.

Danny:

  1. Danny has curly hair, but if you needed to picture him, I’d say young Jared Padalecki as Dean on Gilmore Girls. Tall, lean, earnest, sort of a big friendly puppy dog. (And if you’re not watching him on Supernatural, you must go do that right now, start to finish. For real. )
  2. Danny was inspired to draw and to make music simply by watching his mom cook. Eating was one of his great loves, but he never really got how you take disparate things and make it into something delicious. To him, that was a kind of magic. (Danny really loved his mom.)
  3. Sometimes Danny wrote letters to Wren – long, involved, rambling ones about life and about her and about things he didn’t understand about the world – even though he only gave her one or two of them.
  4. His favorite book was The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien. It was a school assignment, but it stayed with him the way no other book had.
  5. His favorite band was The Who.
  6. His favorite movie was Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, even though Wren mocked him for it endlessly.

Gabriel:

  1. If Paul Bettany and Jude Law had a love child, that would be pretty close to what Gabriel looks like in my head. Tall and angular and blond and sort of elegant. But, you know, younger.
  2. He’s been writing a novel for about a year, a serious one. He’s going to tell Wren about it … one day.
  3. When he was about five he was hit by a car, and one leg was broken in three places. He was in the hospital in traction for a few weeks, and that’s when he learned to read.
  4. His favorite book is the whole Harry Potter series. If he has to pick just one, he usually says Prisoner of Azkaban.
  5. His favorite musician is Ray LaMontagne.
  6. His favorite movie is 3:10 to Yuma, but Batman Begins is a close second.
