Question of the Day

With the 4th installment of the Twilight movies, Breaking Dawn, fast approaching, you can't help but see Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattinson on nearly every tabloid cover out there. This made me think about the Twilight books and how I'm not really looking forward to the next couple of movies because I COULDN'T STAND the ending of the books!!

I don't know about you, but the way the books just ended so neatly really bothered me.

So: Today's Question of the Day: Has there ever been a book that you adored, but absolutely hated the ending?

LET ME KNOW!!!!

  1. I too hated Breaking Dawn. First off, I'm not a fan of the series to begin with, but the other books were okay. Not for me, but I could see its appeal to teens and other readers. But BD was just awwffuull. For many reasons. Anticlimactic. Where are the fight scenes? The blood? Why aren't there any deaths? Why is Bella all of a sudden the "best vampire ever" apparently? Who names their kid Renesmee? And don't even get me started on the whole Jacob thing.

Another ending I didn't like was unfortunately Mockingjay. I love that series! I still do. It's an amazing series, but it was just very sad how it all ended that way.

  2. I love your questions of the day Maria. Of the top of my head I can't think of a book that I hated the ending. But I can think of a movie! I was really enjoying this movie last summer but the ending sucked so horribly that I was mad. The movie is called "500 days of summer." It was my HEA ending. So I wasn't happy with it.

  3. Yes. A couple actually...

First - Vampire Diaries. Before she decided to write book five and on, I was not happy at all with the original ending to the series. I thought it was a little dumb.

Two - Colleen Gleason's Gardella Vampire Chronicles. Though, it ended on a good note, I wanted it to end differently.

Three - Inara Scott's The Candidates. Again, great ending, but not what I wanted haha.

    I guess I am spoiled.

Breaking Dawn to me was a great book, but I agree with you Maria. I hated that she hyped up this big battle and was getting you ready for some serious stuff, then it was like ...oh Bella is so powerful. She blocks everything. Okay let's leave them alone lol.

  4. The book that broke my heart with the ending-
Stephanie Meyer's other book which I thought way way better than her twilight books-The Host. Brilliant book-amazing heartwrenching ending-then she adding her happily ever after chapter and made it such a disappointing ending. I'm still mourning....

  5. I really hate to answer this one but I will....I LOVED the series Evernight by Claudia Gray BUT....The ending was not/did not live up to the rest of the series. I wonder if it's that you have been working on something for so long that you really want to move on to other projects and the care is just not there? or is it that the pressure to produce a "final" book is to much? or the dreaded, "I had this whole thing figured out but my publisher wanted something different?" In any case I was hoping for so so so much more. I would still recommend the series because the first 3 were so great.

Ok now you have me thinking.....The House of Night series by PC Cast is another.....I got into these straight away but found that as each new book came out I liked them less and less. So much so that the last one is still on the TBR pile. So although I can not comment on the "END" I can say the stories have/do decrease in enjoyable reading as the series goes on. Sorry for being so long winded. Great question of the day.

  6. I'm reaching way back but obviously I'm still traumatized. I loved Where the Red Fern Grows. The relationship between the boy and the two dogs was very real to me. I was heartbroken when the dogs died. I still get sad when I think about it. When the first dog died it was bad enough, but when the second died of heartbreak from losing the other, I nearly died of heartbreak too. Why do the dogs always have to die in books? -The Loopy Librarian

  7. Wow this question stumped me at first and then reading the other comments reminded me of a few books. I really like the Evernight series at first but the ending of Douglas was awful and I couldn't even finish Afterlife. I really liked the beginning of Storm born by Richelle Mead, but the ending was disappointing. I have to agree with The Host too by Stephenie Meyer, the ending was really cheesy. I'm not completely happy with how Hard Bitten by Chloe Neill ended, but I'm hoping the series will be better for it. And finally A Fool and his Honey by Charlaine Harris devastated me, and was torn up about the ending for weeks, but the series ended good so I can't be mad. Ok that was a lot more than I thought I could come up with.
