Sixteen-year-old Yara Silva has always known that ghosts walk alongside the living. Her grandma, like the other females in her family, is a Waker, someone who can see and communicate with ghosts. Yara grew up watching her grandmother taunted and scorned for this unusual ability and doesn't want that to be her future. She has been dreading the day when she too would see ghosts, and is relieved that the usually dominant Waker gene seems to have skipped her, letting her live a normal teenage life. However, all that changes for Yara on her first day at her elite boarding school when she discovers the gene was only lying dormant. She witnesses a dark mist attack Brent, a handsome fellow student, and rushes to his rescue. Her act of heroism draws the mist's attention, and the dark spirit begins stalking her. Yara finds herself entrenched in a sixty-year-old curse that haunts the school, threatening not only her life, but the lives of her closest friends as well. Yara soon realizes that the past she was trying to put behind her isn't going to go quietly.

          My Thoughts:

One day I was on twitter and I tweeted about how I wanted a Ghost story and if anyone had any recommendations. And a fellow blogger recommended "Intrinsicial by Lani Woodland" So I looked for it on Goodreads and saw that the ratings for this book was a 4.17 stars and a few reviews. I knew then I found my book.

Once I got my hands on this book. I immediately felt drawn to the main character which is named Yara (same name as one of our favorite bloggers) because she's not a little teenage bimbo. She's not one of those that is always saying "OMG" and "NO WAY". LOL. In fact I think the reason I feel like I like this character so much, is because she's sarcastic and a has a bit of a temper. Which is the same way I am. Down packed. People who don't know me may question the person I am because at times because I'm extremely sarcastic. Not everyone can take sarcasm in stride. And so is Yara and she made me LOL quite a few times.

So Yara is what you call a Waker. A Waker is someone who can see and communicate with ghosts. Now while some may like the idea like her best friend Cherie that Yara can talk to ghosts. She on the other hand was hoping the gene skipped her. All the females in her family are wakers. But she wasn't so lucky as for her wish didn't become true. And she knew this but it wasn't until she enrolled in a new school and the very first day she witnessed a dark mist attack another student.

But knowing that she just can't stand there and do nothing. She ran to the rescue of the kid that was being attacked. But by doing that, the mist realized that she could see ghosts and you can only imagine what happens after that. But the story behind the mist is what made her and her BFF come to that new school. The school has had a curse and Cherie (the bff) had to uncover the secrets behind the curse. But what kind of trouble will Yara and Cherie get into as they search deeper into the curse.

Now this story isn't just a ghost story. It has a romance twist to it. So it's can quench your need for romance in it too. But like I said before, I love the main character. She is a smart girl who isn't whiny like some other books I've come across. So that made her different along with her powers. I think this story has a unique twist to it. And it definitely feed my appetite for more "Ghost" stories. Intrinsical started with immediate action. It isn't a book that you have to wait to reach the plot of the story. No. It was very well written and I enjoyed it very much. It's a 5 star in my book. If you're in the mood for a ghost story.  Then pick Lani's book up! It's a definite "Good Choice for Reading"
