Blog Tour Interview & Giveaway: BAD TO THE BONE by Wendy Byrne!

Bad to the Bone by Wendy Byrne
Genre: Romance, Adventure
Publication: September 7th, 2015 by Entangled Publishing

When her Uncle Jack is arrested on drug charges, Sammie Murphy hops the first plane to Key West. Being rescued isn’t on her uncle’s to-do list, though. When he admits guilt and instructs her to go home, Sammie knows with 100% certainty something is seriously wrong.

Veteran DEA agent Enrique Santos knows when a bust is solid. So why is he allowing Jack Murphy’s niece to mess with his head? He’s been set-up and nearly killed by a woman like her before, and he’s not about to make that mistake again.

But then things at Murphy’s bar take a turn for the dangerous, leaving Sammie entangled in Enrique’s dark past. Forced to second-guess his convictions, Enrique has no choice but to kidnap the one woman who could destroy everything...including his heart.

About the Author

Wendy lives in the Chicago area. She has a Masters in Social Work and worked in the child welfare field for twelve years before she decided to pursue her dream of writing.

Between teaching college classes, trying to get her morbidly obese cat to slim down and tempering the will of her five-year-old granddaughter, who's determined to become a witch when she turns six so she can fly on her broom to see the Eiffel Tower and put hexes on people--not necessarily in that order--somehow Wendy still manages to fit in writing. She spends the remainder of her days inflicting mayhem on her hero and heroine until they beg for mercy.

Interview

1.      Tell us a little about yourself and your latest/upcoming release.
My background is in social work where I learned to treasure those few happy endings I saw in the field. But writing gives me an opportunity to always have a happy ending. I love writing strong women—both physically and mentally—women that can stand on their own two feet and know how to defend themselves. The heroine in Bad to the Bone is Sammie Murphy and she has a black belt in karate and can easily defend herself. When her uncle’s arrested on drug charges, she flies to Key West to help and finds herself in the middle of a whole lot of trouble—not the least of which is a too-good-to-be-true bad boy, Enrique Santana. Enrique works undercover for the DEA and made the bust on Sammie’s uncle Jack. He’s convinced he arrested the guilty party. But when his niece sashays into town talking about police corruption and a set up, he has no choice but to prove her wrong.

2.      What's the one piece of technology you can't live without?
For a writer it’s always their computer. No writer can survive without that, but that’s the easy answer. Other than my computer, my favorite piece of technology is hands down my Kindle. I went into the idea of Kindle kicking and screaming a bit—loving the feel of a book in my hands, etc. But when I got a Kindle for Christmas about four years ago, there was no turning back. How else could I cart around several dozen books with me and have it weigh less than one? Now I’ve moved on to the Paperwhite Kindle so I don’t even have to turn on the bedside lamp to read at night.

3.     What do you normally like to read when not writing?
I read pretty much anything from Hunger Games and Divergent to Girl on a Train to contemporary romance to women’s fiction to anything romantic suspense. I do read some historical romances and love one of my fellow Windy City authors, Tracey Devlyn. She writes the best historical romantic suspense!

4.     Describe your main character in six words.
resilient, persistent, fearless, loyal, selfless, stubborn

5.     Can you share a teaser of [book title] with our readers?
The worn-in fit of his jeans, the shirt exposing his biceps, and the sultry appeal of the way he walked slammed into her. Although shed hoped shed outgrown her fascination with the dark side, clearly that was not the case. Everything about him drew her in like a televangelist to a convert with a fat wallet.

6.     What scene was your favorite to write?
My hero and heroine are tough. I wanted them to be challenged, but not in the traditional sense. They’re strong and in charge 99% of the time, so what would make them feel out of control? I thought about Harrison Ford in Raiders of the Lost Ark and this scene came to mind.

She shuddered. “I think…theyve…decided to move in.”
He knew a little about snakes and tried to distinguish the markings. “Im pretty sure theyre copperheads.”
Her mouth was drawn into a tight line, but the words spewed out between her lips. “I just want to get rid of them.”
Rocking back on his heels, Enrique contemplated what to do next. “The problem is theyre highly poisonous.” He forced a smile. “Thats the thing about snakes—even if theyre harmless, they look like such badasses it doesnt really matter.”
