Review & Giveaway: Mia and the Bad Boy by Lisa Burstein!

Title: Mia and the Bad Boy
Author: Lisa Burstein
Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary Romance
Publication: May 19th, 2015

This good girl’s about to meet her match…

Ryder Brooks is living the dream—he’s famous, loved by millions of girls, and miserable. All he really wants is to write his own music, not Seconds to Juliet’s sugary sweet pop. In order to do that, though, the “bad boy” of the band will have to play by the rules. And that includes behaving with his new—and super cute—über-good-girl tutor.

Mia Reyes is in fangirl heaven. Tutoring her favorite member of her favorite band? It’s a dream come true…until it turns into a complete nightmare. Ryder is nothing like she thought. He’s crude, arrogant, and pretty much a total jerk. And the worst part? She’s roped into pretending to be his girlfriend so that no one finds out he’s being tutored. Fake kisses, plenty of PDA, and even sharing his hotel room…

But sometimes even the baddest of bad boys needs a little redemption.

I’m going to be honest and say that I typically avoid rockstar love interests because I think a great deal of “fangirl” fantasy has to go into these books. Often times it comes across as cheesy and unbelievable to me, so I usually just skip them.

But…Mia and the Bad Boy was calling my name. Maybe it was the cover, or maybe I had a sweet tooth and had a hunch this would have just the right amount of sweetness. And it did.
I really liked both Mia and Ryder. They had great chemistry and they were both all-around likeable characters. I enjoyed seeing their relationship blossom.

My favorite part about Mia and the Bad Boy is the way the “firsts” were handled. Mia isn’t exactly experienced, and I thought the author captured the feelings and emotions of a first love quite well. The happiness, the thrill of it all, the doubts – it was all present and handled perfectly.

I will say I wish the characters had been a bit older. I would have felt more comfortable with the way the story unfolds, especially the ending, if she had been 18.

Overall I really enjoyed Mia and the Bad Boy and I would definitely recommend it to all my fellow young adult romance lovers out there.

  2. I have read books where I wish that the characters were older for that same reason. I think that is a major downfall to some authors writing YA for the adult audience for reviews. Nice informative review.
