What attracted me to this book? The cover! When I saw this cover for the first time I immediately thought "kick-ass herione". And of course, I was right! Then the synopsis really did me in! Let me tell you about this book right here.... phew! What a story!!!
The story kicks off immediately with action/suspense. With the first couple of chapters or so you get a look inside Wil's life as an orphan. Not only is she an orphan who runs around the city with a group of kids/teens, but she is also a Princess. A princess who has magic. Having magic is not a good thing in her world. People with magic basically vanish. So it's very important for Wil to keep her secret. You are also introduced to Black Knife. He is sort of like Wil's very own Green Arrow/Batman. You don't know if he's good or bad, but he seems to clean up the streets.
Wil and her friend Mel decide to become spies. They come up with this whole ruse to be able to get into the palace and actually spend some time there gathering information, drawing floor plans, etc. Brilliant idea, except that Wil get's really involved, and even starts to question her friendship with Mel at times. She also gets to know Black Knife a little better. Black Knife is the main reason I enjoyed this book so much! I am a sucker for romance, and The Orphan Queen has the perfect romance in my opinion. *swoon*
Another reason why I loved it so much was because of Wil's strength to survive and take back what's hers. Her boldness, and how daring she was. Fearless! She is definitely NOT a weak character.
One thing I will say that bothered me to no end was the ending. It does end in a cliffhanger that leaves you with your heart ripped to pieces, and your mouth wide open. Maybe even your eyes bugging out, too. Yes, that kind of ending. It upset me, but also left me wanting more with the urge to re-read the book over and over again until I have book two in my hands. THAT GOOD!
Do yourself a favor and get this book. One of the best I've read so far in 2015!
