Review: Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

Title: Gone Girl

Hardcover, 419 pgs

GoodReads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife's head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media--as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents--the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter--but is he really a killer?

Sidenote: I have yet to see this movie, so please don't spoil it for me! But...I would like to know if it was good compared to the book -- leave a comment with your thoughts :)

Okay...so my review: I loved, loved, loved this book.
As most of you probably know by now, Gone Girl revolves around the mysterious disappearance of Amy Dunne, wife of Nick Dunne. No one knows how, no one knows why, but all signs point to Nick. Did he kill his wife? Or is he the innocent man he claims to be? The only remaining item that can even give a clue of what happened is Amy's diary (and it's creepy, to say the least). But things may not always be what they seem.

I truly adore a good mystery novel, and Gillian Flynn does such a phenomenal job. She keeps you in suspense, pointing fingers at nearly every character, and then doubting what's real or not -- even within your own mind. The pages will turn ridiculously fast and I guarantee you will be completely immersed in this thriller.

5 out of 5 stars

  1. I'm a little skeptic about this book... I think I read a book by the same title and didn't like it? or perhaps it was this same book? I'm confused so I'll check out the first chapter on the web if it's available and see if I've tried to read this book already. Thanks for the review!
