I wish I knew where to begin with this review. The Taking was a
very weird read.
I love that Kimberly Derting touched a new genre and started a new
series, but I have to be completely honest and say that this book just ran way
too slow for me. I literally spent more than half the book wanting to skip to
the end so that I can find out what happened, and move on. It's not that it was
a horrible read, I just feel it took way too long to pick up and start giving
me answers. Just when I was about to skip to end and call it quits, the
story took off and became a page turner. Everything happens at the very last
six or seven chapters.
I also thought it was predictable. I knew immediately how things
were going to play out, and sure enough they did. Still, it was pretty
interesting once everything came to light. I do think the second book (at least
I hope there is a second book) is going to be way better and run at a much
faster pace. The ending left me wanting more. I recommend this read, just keep
in mind it does take a bit to pick up.
Funny, I really enjoyed this one. I didn't find it boring, though I agree it was a bit predictable and I did know certain things would happen. I'm sure there will be a second, how could there not be with an ending like that?
ReplyDeletei really liked this book but mainly because i wasn't in a hurry to read the sci-fi part of the book.. the first half read like a cute contemporary and I loved that.. so i guess it is a hybrid genre kind of book.

OMG I loved this book! It was somewhat predictable but I totally was enamored. I don't usually do anything with aliens and because of this book I have tried others!
