Sometimes discovering the truth can leave you more hopeless than believing the lies…

That’s what seventeen-year-old Sky realizes after she meets Dean Holder. A guy with a reputation that rivals her own and an uncanny ability to invoke feelings in her she’s never had before. He terrifies her and captivates her all in the span of just one encounter, and something about the way he makes her feel sparks buried memories from a past that she wishes could just stay buried.

Sky struggles to keep him at a distance knowing he’s nothing but trouble, but Holder insists on learning everything about her. After finally caving to his unwavering pursuit, Sky soon finds that Holder isn’t at all who he’s been claiming to be. When the secrets he’s been keeping are finally revealed, every single facet of Sky’s life will change forever.

Sky's not your typical 17 year old girl. She has one friend, she's been home schooled her whole life, and there are no electronics in her house, her mother won't allow it. She's also generally indifferent, and emotionally detatched, with few exceptions. She's never even experienced a crush. No butterflies in her stomach, no blushing over meeting eyes, no increased heart rate at the mere sight of someone, none of that. It doesn't matter how many boys she sneaks into her room to make out with. That is, until she meets Dean Holder. Unfortunately Holder is a bit intense. He has erratic mood swings, and he won't explain why.

I don't even know what to say, I am speechless. I had to sit down and write this review immediately, while these feelings I'm feeling were still fresh. I never really understood what people meant when they described something as “an emotional rollercoaster.” Well, I feel like I understand now.

This was a crazy, sad, beautiful, and sometimes funny story. I really enjoyed it. This is actually a pretty big deal for me. People who don't read constantly, and some that do maybe, may not understand. I'm constantly searching, always looking for something great, something I'll never forget. A story that touches me in a way that most can't. Sometimes, I'll read so many books in a row that the stories start to blend together. I can't even remember character names sometimes. I am so critical, I generally start a book expecting it to fit between “alright” and “sucked.” That's terrible, and it's unfair to the story, but I have read so many books that it seems like not much catches me anymore. But not Hopeless, not at all. This was a fantastic book, one of the best ones I've ever read I do believe. I had so many different emotions while reading it. I loved the character's, and I loved the story.

I don't think I have it in me, emotionally, to read Hopeless again, not because it was bad, but because I feel too much. But I don't think I'll ever forget this story. It's not all sunshine and puppies, there are some issues that some people may not deal well with, but for me, it was the story. I don't think this book would appeal to people who like an easy going love story. It is not for the faint of heart. Personally, I thought it was beautiful, but I really enjoyed that it was different.

  1. I know what you mean about the books blending together, I'm getting into that kind of phase at the moment. This definitely sounds like a book I'll have to check out, thanks for the review!
