Two years ago, the aliens made contact. Now Cara Sweeney is going to be sharing a bathroom with one of them.

Handpicked to host the first-ever L’eihr exchange student, Cara thinks her future is set. Not only does she get a free ride to her dream college, she’ll have inside information about the mysterious L’eihrs that every journalist would kill for. Cara’s blog following is about to skyrocket.

Still, Cara isn’t sure what to think when she meets Aelyx. Humans and L’eihrs have nearly identical DNA, but cold, infuriatingly brilliant Aelyx couldn’t seem more alien. She’s certain about one thing, though: no human boy is this good-looking.

But when Cara's classmates get swept up by anti-L'eihr paranoia, Midtown High School suddenly isn't safe anymore. Threatening notes appear in Cara's locker, and a police officer has to escort her and Aelyx to class.

Cara finds support in the last person she expected. She realizes that Aelyx isn’t just her only friend; she's fallen hard for him. But Aelyx has been hiding the truth about the purpose of his exchange, and its potentially deadly consequences. Soon Cara will be in for the fight of her life—not just for herself and the boy she loves, but for the future of her planet.

It seems that I am building an obsession with sci/fi novels. Lately I've been really drawn to romance novels (YA or Adult) that are sci/fi and enjoying those tons.

I've been dying to read Alienated since the first day I managed to snag a copy. Of course with my busy schedule it sat on my bookshelf until recently, but glad I did read it.

Alienated has super cool unique plot. Cara lives in a world where aliens live openly. Well, not one hundred percent, but the world knows about them. They aren’t hidden anymore. Earth has agreed to do a student exchange with three of L’eihr students, and three students from earth.

First, let me say that each student from L’eihr look very similar to humans. They have some slight changes, but otherwise they look like any other human walking the earth. I think this was a bonus because I don’t think I would have enjoyed this story if they were all weird looking with tentacles and stuff. LOL!

I loved Cara’s personality. She was a go getter. She did what she needed to do to make her dreams come true. Only problem with doing this is that she wasn’t thinking much about others. She was a bit selfish at times. When Aelyx enters her life and joins her school, follows Cara’s routine, things don’t go as planned. Some people in her school cannot accept Aelyx. Things get bad for Cara and Aelyx. It didn’t help both that Aelyx already questioned this exchange, and was against it to begin with.

When Cara and Aelyx find that they can only count on each other until this exchange is over is when things got a bit steamy between the two. I thought it was really cute how they first kissed and finally shared their feelings for one another. It actually gave me butterflies. It was so sweet!

There were times that I did feel the story dragged a bit. I kept waiting for something big to happen, or for them to finally realize they cared for each other….something! But the build-up was worth the wait.

I wasn’t really happy with the ending. You can sort of tell it was done to set up book two. I wish it was done a bit differently, but at least there will be sequel, right? The way it ended though, scares me. I can’t really say why because of spoilers, but I just hope it isn’t another NEW MOON.

Overall, I rate Alienated 3.5 stars. Great story!

  4. I still like the premise behind this book, so I will definitely check it out. I like that Cara's a go- getter. That kind of attitude isn't always found in YA heroines, so I think it would be fun to read about. Thanks for the review!

  11. I've had my eyes on this one for a while, too. That cover is so amazing! I love how you can tell it's sci-fi, just by looking at it. I'm a bit of a sci-fi freak, as far, I love writing about aliens and such. So this topic totally intrigues me. And in a few butterflies and I think I'm done. I have to read this book.
Although! That New Moon comment scares me a bit *shudder*

  13. I really really loved it but I agree the ending wasn't what made me love the book, it was all about the sequel and left us in not a good place after finishing the book. I loved however their slow, tender and sweet romance ..
