Blog Tour: Fire in the Darkness by Stacey Marie Brown, Review & Giveaway!

Fire in the Darkness by Stacey Marie Brown
New Adult Paranormal Romance
Published August 31, 2013 by Twisted Fairy Publishing
It's been four weeks since Ember Brycin witnessed what her powers are capable of. The Electrical Current Storm has turned Seattle, Washington into a natural disaster zone. The death toll is in the thousands with countless others homeless and hungry.
And Ember is the one who caused it. Something she will have to live with every day.
Those people who were unable to escape either turned quickly into gangs or live in shelters. Ember, on the other hand, can’t do either. With a price on her head and a Dark Dweller on her ass, she is constantly on the move. Both Light and Dark are hunting her for their own purpose to use her as a weapon or a pawn in the war between the Unseelie King of the Dark and the Seelie Queen of the Light.
Em needs help but doesn’t know who to trust: Lars, the mystery man Torin told her to find? Torin, the Seelie Queen’s personal knight, who has sworn to keep Em safe? Or Eli, who wants to turn her over to the Unseelie King, but whom she has an undeniable, intense connection with?
No matter what she chooses she will probably lose—her life or everything and everyone she loves.

Review

After finishing Darkness of Light, I had planned to push Fire in the Darkness to the side for a while and focus on getting through some other books on my TBR. However, it wasn’t long before I just gave up on that and had to find out what came next in Ember’s story.

Fire in the Darkness was just as fun as Darkness of Light. I love Ember’s humor, and still love Eli’s family. There is something about that pack mentality that pulls at my heart strings, regardless of what they’re doing. Even when things in life are going badly, that camaraderie is always there, and I love that.

For most of the book, I liked Ember and Eli’s relationship. I LOVED the moments when she would fight back, even if it was only out of pride and not how she really felt. There were times, though, when her attraction to him annoyed me. Or her attraction to any of the men she is attracted too, I guess I should say, but particularly Eli, because he’s…mean. I understand that she is half fairy, and their sex drive is different than that of humans, but I found myself wishing on a few occasions that her hormones would take a vacation. Or at least focus. Ha.

I have to say the romance(s?) is my least favorite part of the story, but they don’t stop me from enjoying it. I liked that Fire in the Darkness filled in a lot of the fantasy details that we were missing, and pulled the focus away from the romance for the most part. It’s still there, lurking, but not as heavily as in book one. That’s how I like romance—there, but on a back burner.

This series is highly entertaining, possibly my favorite Fey series yet. I'd definitely recommend it, especially for fans of steamy fantasy. I assume, or at least hope, we will get more on the Dark Dwellers’ history in the next installment, and I am really looking forward to that!

About Stacey

Stacey Marie Brown by day is an Interior/Set Designer, by night a writer of Paranormal Fantasy, Adventure, and Literary Fiction. She grew up in Northern California, where she ran around on her family’s farm, raising animals, riding horses, playing flashlight tag, and turning hay bales into cool forts. Even before she could write, she was creating stories and making up intricate fantasies. Writing came as easy as breathing. She later turned that passion into acting, living and traveling abroad, and designing. Though she had never stopped writing, moving back to San Francisco seemed to have brought it back to the forefront and this time it would not be ignored.
When she’s not writing she’s out hiking, spending time with friends, traveling, listening to music, or designing.

  1. I haven't seen a lot of New Adult paranormal stories. And I haven't heard of this series, either. It sounds good. I enjoy Fey stories, and this sounds like it could be a dang good one. Thank you for your review!
