Review for book one, DARKNESS OF LIGHT
Darkness of Light was a surprisingly enjoyable read. Not that I necessarily doubted that it would be—I love the cover, and the blurb sounded interesting—but it wasn’t very long into the story where I had a suspicion about what Ember is (which I’ll omit for the sake of leaving out spoilers), and this is normally something I am no fan of. The more I suspected it, the more I started to feel like there was a dark cloud over the story, fed by my preconceived notions of the subject.
It’s difficult to review Darkness of Light without mentioning what she is, because it plays such a crucial role, but trust me, this isn’t my type of story, normally.
Somewhere along the way, those preconceived notions dissolved. Eventually I happened to look down at the progress bar on my kindle and realized I was 73% finished, and not only was I not hating it, I was really liking it. I wasn’t even remotely ready for it to be over.
Getting to know these characters and learning about the world that had been hidden from Ember was a fun ride. I loved the dynamics of Eli’s family, and thought it added an edge that set it apart from many books in this genre. It’s an angle we don’t get to see, much. (I want to tell you what they are….so badly! Ha!)
If you’re a fan of YA/NA paranormal with wild, erratic romances, I would definitely recommend Darkness of Light.
