Smart girls aren't supposed to do stupid things.

Madelyn Hawkins is super smart. At sixteen, she's so gifted that she can attend college through a special program at her high school. On her first day, she meets Bennet. He's cute, funny, and kind. He understands Madelyn and what she's endured - and missed out on - in order to excel academically and please her parents. Now, for the first time in her life, she's falling in love.

There's only one problem. Bennet is Madelyn's college professor, and he thinks she's eighteen - because she hasn't told him the truth.

The story of their forbidden romance is told in letters that Madelyn writes to Bennet - both a heart-searing ode to their ill-fated love and an apology.

I’ve never read a book, aside from Nicolas Sparks, that has left me crying hours later after reading it. I don’t quite know what exactly it was about The Truth about You and Me that broke me down the way that it did, but it did; it broke me down into one big mess of tears.

When you read the blurb you automatically know not to expect a happy ending. There is no possible way a happy ending can come out of the mess Madelyn has created. With every page I turned my heart broke for her and Ben. Nothing really happens until the near end, but I think the fact that the story is told from a series of letters that Madelyn wrote to Ben, is what did me in. She lays out her emotions and paints a clear picture of how everything happened. How she fell in love with Ben? How she knew it was wrong, but yet she couldn’t bring herself to tell him the truth.

The author did such an amazing job capturing her emotions, and at the same time giving readers enough to really get a feel for the characters, and the situation they found themselves in. It’s just beautifully written. The ending wasn’t the outcome I wanted, but it also wasn’t the worst case scenario. It made me smile, but ripped my heart into pieces, too.

Words seriously cannot express how much I love this book. To think I was about to stop reading it when I realized the story is written from the female’s point of view, but in a series of letters to Ben. The entire book is her talking to Ben, apologizing, recapping their romance, and just trying to help him understand why she did what she did.

This is a book that I will forever remember. I can easily reread it a hundred times and probably cry my eyes out like it was the first time. This one really touched my heart and as much as I wanted to hate Madelyn, I couldn’t. I felt so bad for her and wanted her to have a happy ending. She did something so horrible, but yet my heart broke for her with every word. She found love and didn’t want to let it go.

I am going to end this review with saying that Amanda Grace has written a book that not only is perfect in every way, but really rips into your soul and makes you wonder what if? It also leaves you wondering what you would have done in Madelyn and Ben’s situation. You will fall in love with both characters and find yourself torn between right and wrong. I was rooting for them, but at the same time frustrated because I didn’t want Madelyn to ruin Ben’s life.

The Truth about You and Me is the true meaning of Forbidden love. It doesn’t get more forbidden than this.

After writing this review I think I want to re-read it now. I greatly recommend this read!
