PHOENIX by Elizabeth Richards - Guest Post & Giveaway! (BLOG TOUR)

Today we kick off the mini PHOENIX by Elizabeth Richards BLOG TOUR! Author Elizabeth Richards is here today sharing a guest post and photos of how she pictures certain parts of the book, and what inspires her. Enjoy!

I believe it was Paul Rudnick who said “writing is 90 percent procrastination”, and that’s probably about right. As an author, I spend far too much of my day on Twitter and Facebook (it IS work, I promise!), or trawling the internet for ‘inspiration’—this usually means sending pictures of hot boys to my author friends and debating if he’d make a good character for one of our books. However, along the way, I do occasionally stumble across an image that sparks an idea for my WIP, which I quickly add to my Pinterest board, to be referenced later when I’m hitting my head against the laptop searching for inspiration. To celebrate the upcoming release of PHOENIX (A Black City Novel), every day this week I’ll be sharing an image from my Pinterest board, along with an exclusive excerpt from the scene that it inspired. Here’s the first image, to kick things off…

THE GILDED CITY

Source: George Tsypin “Glass City” 2009

Sharp-eyed readers of BLACK CITY might recall a place called Centrum, in the Dominion State, where Natalie lived after her father was murdered. The beautiful metropolis earned its nickname ‘The Gilded City’ because of its giltstone skyscrapers and sidewalks, and this photograph of George Tsypin’s amazing glass instillation really captures the essence of this prosperous and majestic place. Centrum also happens to be where the tyrannical leader of the United Sentry States, Purian Rose, lives and it’s with him that the story begins in PHOENIX…

EXCERPT
Purian Rose stepped out onto the balcony of the Golden Citadel, adjusting the white cotton glove on his right hand. The sun had just started to set over the city, making the giltstone buildings shimmer gold. He was greeted by the melody of a million voices calling out to him across the metropolis, united in their evening prayer. Normally this would bring a smile to his thin lips. Centrum was his creation, his perfect vision of the world: purity, faith and power combined. But not tonight. How could he be happy when everything he had worked so hard for was in jeopardy?

Title: Phoenix (A Black City Novel, Book #2)
Released: June 2013
Publisher: G.P Putnam’s Sons
Synopsis

The much anticipated second book in the enthralling Black City series.

Engaged to be married, Ash and Natalie are just starting to build a life together, when things in the United Sentry States go from bad to worse. Ash and Natalie find themselves at the center of the turmoil when dictator Purian Rose threatens Natalie’s life unless Ash votes in favor of Rose’s law—a law that will send Darklings and other dissenters to a deadly concentration camp known as the Tenth.

Ash can’t bring himself to trade Natalie’s life for those of millions of Darklings. The only way to save everyone is to escape Black City and find the Ora, a powerful weapon that could take down Purian Rose for good. But fleeing the city and finding this weapon is easier said than done, if it even exists, and becomes a quest that could tear Ash and Natalie apart, even pushing them into the arms of others.

Fast-paced and absorbing, Phoenix is a delicious, steamy can’t-put-down read.

  20. That glass city artwork is beautiful. I probably stared at it for five minutes. Some of the glasswork just looks so real. (real like a skyline/buildings, not just glass) I haven't read this series yet but it's been on my radar since the first book came out. Thanks for the giveaway!
