Oh, how I love me some Julie Kagawa!
I was so excited when NetGalley sent me the email about this book, as I ashamedly admit, I had forgotten all about the series....
Fortunately for me, Kagawa does a great job of reminding you were you left off without the in-your-face summary that most authors throw at you in the first ten pages of a book. In a nanosecond I was brought up to speed and instantly swept back into the world of vampire cities, sewers and rabids (think: diseased zombies that literally eat everything and everyone).
I'm going to hate myself for this later, but I must be honest with you all and admit that I was not very impressed The Eternity Cure. Now, that's not to say that I didn't enjoy it, nor that I wouldn't recommend it to others. What I do mean to day is that there was nothing really different about this book than the The Immortal Rules. There was the forbidden romance between Allie and Zeke, there was the crazy adventure where everyone's lives were on the line, and there was Allie's struggle to live with herself as a "humane" vampire. All the same themes as The Immortal Rules....nothing really different.
Yes, we get introduced to a few new characters.
Yes, Kagawa's writing is both stunning and imaginative.
But, no, this book didn't do much for the series as a whole. It seemed slow at times, hard to believe at others, and the characters didn't grow as much as I would have liked.
All in all, I'd give The Eternity Cure 2 1/2 stars (this breaks my heart).

Oh no!!! Definitely disappointing to hear. I'm sorry this didn't work out for you. I can understand where your coming from. Sometimes it's not a good repetitive. Hopefully I'll be able to enjoy this one!
ReplyDeleteI haven't started this series yet but I know so many people love Julie's books so I'm sad to hear you didn't like this one.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the third book will pick everything back up because so many second books in a series fall into a pattern where they just don't impress you that much because they are a filler book
