The Dead and Buried by Kim Harrington Blog Tour (Interview/Giveaway)

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your latest/upcoming release.

I’m the author of the CLARITY series and my new release, THE DEAD AND BURIED, is my first standalone. I think CLARITY fans will love it, though. It has the same mix of supernatural, mystery, and romance. It’s about a teenage girl who discovers that the house her family just moved into is haunted, and she must solve the mystery of the ghost girl’s death.

2. How did you come up with the idea of THE DEAD AND BURIED?

I’ve always wanted to write a ghost story, but I wanted to make it fresh and new. And I couldn’t think of something that hadn’t been done to death in the genre. Until one day when several ideas I’d had stewing in my brain clicked together. Sometimes inspiration comes from one moment and one place. For THE DEAD AND BURIED, it was like puzzle pieces that suddenly fit. A story I’d read in the paper about selling stigmatized properties (murder houses) had always stuck with me. A lunch I had with a friend helped inspire the main character of Jade. And a real life scary moment helped create the turning point (the end of Chapter 12) and my main character’s motivation.

3. What's your favorite thing to do when you're not writing?

Reading, watching TV, and spending time with my family. I’m also a Disney World fanatic. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve visited. I think it’s around seventeen.

4. Describe yourself in 3 words.

Shy, funny, nerd.

5. If you could meet anyone and spend an hour with them alive or dead who and why?

Probably my maternal grandmother. She died when I was young and, since she lived in Ireland, I didn’t get to know her as well as I would’ve liked to.

6. What are you working on now?

A secret book. ;) It’s a standalone YA with no paranormal elements. Just a straight-up thriller.

7. Can you share a teaser of THE DEAD AND BURIED with our readers?

I’d love to!

My shaky fingers opened the folder. The title, DISCLOSURE STATEMENT, glared up at me in all caps. Exactly what Faye had told me to look for. And there, at the bottom, was what she had wanted me to find.

Death by unnatural causes.

I was living in a murder house.

8. What do you need to set the mood for you to write?

Silence. It’s funny, I can read in any situation. Fireworks could be going off beside me and I could still read. But to write, I need silence.

9. How did you come up with your character’s name?

As soon as the story came together in my head, I knew what her name would be. It’s very fitting, let’s put it that way. Both because of why her mother chose the name and because of the name’s meaning.

This is or That

Cat or Dog? Dog. I love them. Plus I’m allergic to cats.
Ice cream or Sorbet? Ice cream. Especially chocolate chip.
Heels or flats? Flats. I am a disaster in heels.
Coffee or Tea? Diet Coke
Iced tea or hot tea? Neither. Much to the dismay of my Irish mother.
Snow or rain? Snow, as along as I’m not driving.
Movies at home or Movie Theater? Theater. The smell of popcorn! The huge screen! I love it.
Soda or Juice? I know it’s not healthy, but soda.
Twitter or Facebook? TWITTER TWITTER TWITTER. (Strong feelings)
Actual book or eReader? Actual book.
Actual book or Audiobook? Actual book.
Spring or Summer? Summer. Summer forever!
Fall or winter? Fall.
Long Sleeves or Short Sleeves? Long because I’m always cold.
Ghost or Zombies? Ghosts!
Horror movies or Mystery movies? This question kills me. I can’t choose! I love both.
Mountain views or Ocean views? Definitely ocean.

A haunted house, a buried mystery, and a very angry ghost make this one unforgettable thriller.

Jade loves the house she's just moved into with her family. She doesn't even mind being the new girl at the high school: It's a fresh start, and there's that one guy with the dreamy blue eyes. . . . But then things begin happening. Strange, otherworldly things. Jade's little brother claims to see a glimmering girl in his room. Jade's jewelry gets moved around, as if by an invisible hand. Kids at school whisper behind her back like they know something she doesn't.

Soon, Jade must face an impossible fact: that her perfect house is haunted. Haunted by a ghost who's seeking not just vengeance, but the truth. The ghost of a girl who ruled Jade's school — until her untimely death last year. It's up to Jade to put the pieces together before her own life is at stake. As Jade investigates the mystery, she discovers that her new friends in town have more than a few deep, dark secrets. But is one of them a murderer?
