Interview with author of KISSING KENDALL, Jennifer Shirk.

Tell us a little about yourself and your latest/upcoming release.

Well. I'm a pharmacist-stay-at-home mom turned author. How do you like THAT hat? LOL! I'm married and have one child, four hermit crabs and now one adorable guinea pig.

In my latest Bliss romance, KISSING KENDALL, Kendall has been trying to pick up of the pieces of her life since the death of her firefighter husband almost two years ago. The last thing she’s interested in is love and feels the best way to start moving on is to concentrate on opening up her new bakery business. Unfortunately, she’s finding it hard to remember those two points now that her old friend and policeman Brad Mayer is back in her life and giving her a helping hand.

After losing her husband in the line of duty, Kendall doesn’t want to get involved with another man with a dangerous job, and refuses to give in to her attraction to the handsome police officer. But Brad has always loved Kendall from afar and now that he senses she might feel the same, he’s determined to show her the real danger would be to lose another chance at love.

Do you read reviews of your books? What do you do when you read a not-so-nice one?

I unfortunately DO read reviews. The good ones make me feel good and the bad ones I try to take with a grain of salt and learn from.

Recently, I must have been extra emotional because I had to step away from the computer and make myself a cup of peach herbal tea and put extra honey in it. It made me better. Sort of. :)

What's the one piece of technology you can't live without?

I cannot live without my laptop. It's getting to the point that my hubby is starting to call me "computerina". LOL!

Describe yourself in 3 words.

Funny, sensitive, neat-freak.

What do you normally like to read when not writing?

I normally like to read romance since that's what I write, but I also love YA and thrillers and I throw in some nonfiction too.

How many times were you turned down form a book offer before you finally got published?

I wrote two books that were rejected. The first reject went something like "We can't use this." The second reject actually had a nice explanation of why it was rejected. Then I wrote a third and that was the one that sold! :)

What do you need to set the mood for you to write?

I need to make sure there are no dishes in the sink then I need to check my email and then check in with my critique partners at our forum and then I look over my story notes. THEN I can finally write! Whew!

Heels or flats?

Flats! I'm 5'8 and tall enough.

Iced tea or hot tea?

Iced tea or hot tea. HOT. I'm cold more often than not, and I find hot tea so soothing.

Movies at home or Movie Theater?

Movies at home. We have a giant popcorn tub and we can pause the movie for bathroom breaks.

Twitter or Facebook?

I'm loving Twitter right now. It's quick and fun. Although I go through phases every couple of months.

Actual book or eReader?

Ereader. I read at night and love that I can shut the lights outs and read on my Ipad without disturbing the hubby.

Young Adult or New Adult?

I'm still a YA reader although I have read quite a few REALLY good new adults.

THANKS SO MUCH for having me!

About Jennifer Shirk: Jennifer Shirk has a bachelor degree in pharmacy--which has in NO WAY at all helped her with her writing career. But she likes to point it out, since it shows romantic-at-hearts come in all shapes, sizes, and mind-numbing educations.

She writes sweet (and sometimes even funny) romances for Samhain Publishing, Avalon Books/Montlake Romance and now Entangled Publishing. She won third place in the RWA 2006 NYC's Kathryn Hayes Love and Laughter Contest with her first book, The Role of a Lifetime.

Lately she's been on a serious exercise kick. But don't hold that against her.

Kendall Grisbaum is finally taking charge of her life—pouring her heart into opening a new bakery business and even allowing her best friend Georgie to play matchmaker for her. Trouble is, the one guy she secretly wants is Georgie’s older brother, Brad, who is decidedly off limits.

Brad can’t seem to get his little sister’s best friend out of his mind. He and Kendall used to be close friends, too, and as a local policeman, Brad can’t help but play protector, looking out for Kendall. When he offers to help her renovate her new bakery space on the side, their friendship—and their attraction—flares back to life.

Amid the temptation of doughnut muffins and blueberry cobbler, a new temptation draws them both closer. Can they take a chance on love when it means risking their friendship, even when not doing so risks everything?

  2. I love the sound of this and already have it on my wishlist. I love seeing that this author also reads a lot. I hate when I read a review where the author says she doesn't have time to read. This must be awful.
