When Carlos Fuentes returns to America after living in Mexico for a year, he doesn't want any part of the life his older brother, Alex, has laid out for him at a high school in Colorado. Carlos likes living his life on the edge and wants to carve his own path—just like Alex did. Then he meets Kiara Westford. She doesn’t talk much and is completely intimidated by Carlos’ wild ways. As they get to know one another, Carlos assumes Kiara thinks she’s too good for him, and refuses to admit that she might be getting to him. But he soon realizes that being himself is exactly what Kiara needs right now.

My Review:

I first picked up Rules of Attraction some time in the beginning of this year but I put it down. Why I put it down, you're wondering? Well I"m not a fan of books with characters who are self destructive. And that's what I got from Carlos, he's very self destructive and rude. So that really turned me off. But then lately, I've been in a reading slump. So I decided to change genres and picked Rules of Attraction back up. I finally got past Carlos' rudeness and self destructive behavior and enjoyed this read.

If you haven't read any of the Perfect Chemistry novels, then you are missing out. With every book she publishes, she only gets better. I'm glad I was able to finish reading this book, because it had everything in it. I love that she doesn't write about silly fan girl love. Kiara was a girl who didn't lose herself in Carlos. Though she felt the hots for him, she still had her head on straight. She was funny, straight forward and sarcastic. She care hard and loved harder. She was the perfect female protagonist.

And Carlos, he's so sexy. If only I can read about a character like him in an adult book, so I wouldn't feel so pervy about finding him so sexy. Carlos looks and acts like your typical street thug. He has an " I don't care" attitude and it gets him no where fast. But he's given a chance to redeem himself and that's where this book gets interesting. The struggles Carlos go through are some serious life threatening ones. Even with his messed up attitude, he deep down insides wants a better life.

I love the way Carlos affects Kiara and Kiara affects Carlos. Once their guards are down, they're both good for one another. The cover to this book is actually a scene in this book. I absolutely LOVED this scene. It was my favorite with Carlos. This is exactly where I fell in love with Carlos, that very scene. I think I may love Carlos better than Alex. A big 5/5 stars for this sequel. Rules of Attraction is a definite must buy and a definite Good Choice for Reading!!

  9. I haven't started this series yet but I always hear such amazing things about it. I actually bought this book without realizing it wasn't the first one. I know they follow different couples but I still want to read them in order. I don't mind self destructive characters so much but it can get kind of tiresome. I'm glad that Kiara was a strong and likable character and doesn't give up all herself for Carlos. I like when the couple is mutually affected and good for each other.

  13. This is my favorite book. Has been the one that I laughed so hard. The Spanglish thing is so funny and Kiara's little brother is so cute when he tries to speak Spanish! "I don't know what chachachorro means" Lol!

  14. I am so with you -- I can't stand reading about characters that are self-destructive. This is why I had a really hard to finishing Pretty Amy although I thought the writing was good

    Thanks for the review

  17. These books have never before interested me. But THEN, all of a sudden, I keep seeing all of these awesome reviews for this author named Simone Simone Elkeles, and I am wondering if I am making an absolute crap decision by not giving her a chance. I think I might have to make a new decision about this one.

    1. OMG! Thank you for commenting. I didn't expect a comment from the author! Sweet. I did and I'm so glad I did! I absolutely loved it. There even was a debate among my other blogger friends as to which book we like better. And this one is my favorite out of the two. I just bought "Chain Reaction" so I'm excited to read that soon.
