Review: The Coincidence of Callie & Kayden by Jessica Sorensen (18+)

The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden (The Coincidence, #1) The Coincidence of Callie & Kayden

There are those who don’t get luck handed to them on a shiny platter, who end up in the wrong place at the wrong time, who don’t get saved.

Luck was not on Callie’s side the day of her twelfth birthday when everything was stolen from her. After it’s all over, she locks up her feelings and vows never to tell anyone what happened. Six years later her painful past consumes her life and most days it’s a struggle just to breathe.

For as long as Kayden can remember, suffering in silence was the only way to survive life. As long as he did what he was told, everything was okay. One night, after making a terrible mistake, it seems like his life might be over. Luck was on his side, though, when Callie coincidentally is in the right place at the right time and saves him.

Now he can’t stop thinking about the girl he saw at school, but never really knew. When he ends up at the same college as Callie, he does everything he can to try to get to know her. But Callie is reserved and closed off. The more he tries to be part of her life, the more he realizes Callie might need to be saved.

(New Adult Contemporary)*Mature Content** Recommended for ages 17+ due to sexual situations and language.

          My Review

This book was amazing. I kept seeing it on Goodreads and immediately was drawn. And the minute I bought it and started reading, I was consumed and I devoured it in two days. Now as an aspiring writer. I have to give Sorensen kudos. The Coincidence of Callie & Kayden was written in first person, present tense. Which I find pretty hard to do. There have been a few books in present tense where it wasn't written properly. But she nailed it. This book was also written in two different points of views, Callie's and Kayden's. I actually enjoy a book better when the points of view are coming from more than one character. It helps me understand what's going on in the heads of others in the story.

In this story you meet Callie. Callie is such a sweet girl, quiet and kind. She doesn't ask for attention in ways many other girls do. When she loves, she loves hard. Even though life threw her curve balls, she still opened her heart and let in a very cool best friend. Whom I absolutely LOVE. And Kayden, he's so sweet and so scarred. He's more than his good looks and hot body and we get to see that side of him a lot in this book. I think I was rooting for him the most.

This book trapped me in a world of deceit and betrayal. Both Callie and Kayden have been through so much, both hurt by those who they thought they can trust. Even the sub-characters have their own dark past. But because of Callie's and Kayden's own personal demons, it makes them vulnerable and perfect for each other. Together they embark on a journey where opening up to one another is the inevitable. As I witnessed them falling in love with each another, I fell in love with them too. Their tension made me become their cheerleader, rooting for them to open up and encouraging them to kiss.

I can bet money that The Coincidence of Callie & Kayden will get picked up by a publisher. This book is the kind of story that publishers are looking for, an emotional, steamy, hot and sexy book. This is the kind of book that is going to end up on lots of YA readers TBR pile and then in their favorites once it's read. This book has it all. The New Adult genre has been blowing up and this book is right on the top of that list. The sequel to this novel comes out in February and I can NOT wait to get my hands on it!! I give The Coincidence of Callie & Kayden a HUGE 5 golden stars and a definite Good Choice for Reading!!

  1. I have also seen a lot of hype for this one on goodreads. Hype always scares me off but this book sounds too good to pass up.

  2. This book sounds pretty amazing, but I don't think I could deal with the no ending thing. I may check it out from the library and give it a try anyway, though. Great review! I hadn't heard of this one.
