Interview w/ author Sara Daniel & e-book Giveaway! (18+)

Hi Sara! Welcome to GoodChoiceReading!

Tell us a little a bit about CONSTRUCTION BEAUTY QUEEN.

Construction Beauty Queen is part of Entangled Publishing’s sweet and sassy Bliss Imprint.

Chicago socialite Veronica Jamison is determined to shake off her sheltered lifestyle and overbearing parents. She heads to her grandfather’s small town of Kortville, ready to roll up her sleeves and work for the family construction business. She’ll prove her worth, even if it means answering to the company’s ruggedly handsome co-owner, Matt.

Matt Shaw just wants to run his business, spend time with the niece he’s raising on his own, and give back to the townspeople who have stood by him. Managing a spoiled-rotten princess he knows he’ll never be good enough for? Not part of his plan. But as he gets to know Veronica, he learns there’s more to her than her beautiful looks and designer clothes. She’s got a heart as rich as her background.

With the quirky townspeople rallying against Veronica inheriting her grandfather’s business, it’s up to Matt to try to drive her out of town. But how can he, when instead she’s driving her way into his heart?

If you could pick a song or music CD to match your character, Veronica's life, what would it be? And why?

I’m Movin’ On by Rascal Flatts perfectly fits Veronica as walks away from the only life she’s ever know with people who don’t understand her dreams to make a new life for herself. Guys Like Me by Eric Church picks up the rest of the story. This country song talks about a rough-around-the-edges small-town man (Matt, of course) who falls for a high-class woman who “has her pick of all the trust-fund types” and chooses to be with him.

If you had the chance to switch places with Veronica and live a scene in your book, what scene would that be?

Several years ago, my husband, his father and I reroofed our house. I learned firsthand what a dirty, sweaty, backbreaking job it was. And as I cautiously walked up the slope to the peak of the roof, I realized this job was the perfect place for a heroine who was out of her element but determined to prove she could do the job and do it well, and the first kernels of Construction Beauty Queen were planted. So, I really lived a scene in my book before I wrote it from Veronica’s point-of-view. Oh, in case you’re wondering—yes, I wore work gloves. However, I did step on a nail through my shoe and have to go to the doctor for a tetanus shot!

Describe Veronica and Matt in FIVE words.

Veronica—determined, self-motivated, friendly, generous, caring
Matt—loyal, guarded, protective, cautious, hard-working

And here is a teaser from a bit further into the story:

"You left your tools behind," Veronica noted as Matt backed out of the driveway. "We didn't finish hanging the gate, and I really wanted to meet the owner of that house."

"I'll come back and finish up. The job's almost done."

"So I'm your top priority." She leaned her forehead against the window. "That's so sweet."

His chest tightened, but he kept his voice impassive. "You have a warped idea of top priority if you think someone who makes you beat yourself up with tools and then pass out is sweet."

She lifted her head enough to smile weakly at him. "Matt Shaw, you are without a doubt the sweetest boss I've ever had."

His fingers twitched. He clenched the steering wheel, but it was a poor substitute for the skin he longed to touch. "You're only saying that because I haven't fired you yet."
