Circle of Light by Jennifer Delucy - Guest Post & Giveaway!

Do you think that there’s someone out there for you that’s a more perfect match than anyone else, and that you might actually stand a chance of finding them?

I kind of do.  In fact, you can’t read The Light Series and not come away with the very dominant feeling that its author isn’t a bit of a “soul-mate” geek.  So for today’s guest post, I was going to talk about the four main love personality dynamics in the Light Series.

I’ve done guest posts before that explained the different kinds of love in the books, but today’s post will not be the same thing—because I’m going to describe each of the four main characters and let you decide which ones most closely relate to you. I’m also going to attempt to do this without giving away the plotlines. Wish me luck…

Nicole Abbot: The Inferior

Nicole doesn’t even realize she has a sense of self, it’s been beaten down so badly. Do you ever feel so unworthy, so inferior, that you don’t even want to allow yourself happiness? That you may, consciously or subconsciously, do things to sabotage your own potential? Well, Nicole is a lot like that. Her struggle is more personal than any of the other characters, more inner than outer. In order to be loved…she has to learn to allow it, first.

Lillian Hunt: The Impulsive

Lily’s weakness was something that a lot of us, do, actually. She jumped to conclusions too quickly—fell prey to the influence of other people’s emotions and didn’t weigh and count her circumstances before judging—at least at first.

This can really screw up potential relationships. Actually, it can prevent them from ever taking off to begin with, if you allow other people’s opinions and/or biases to make up your mind for you. Lily has to learn to shut out the rest of the world and trust her own heart.

Christian Wright: The Superior/The Grudge-Holder

Christian has issues. He has severe biases based upon the wounds of past wrongs and he masked his guilt with an inflated ego. Christian likes to look at things through black and white lenses. He thinks he knows the “right” way, the “right” kind of person for him, but it’s not until the stone trap around his heart starts to soften that he’s able to release these limitations and see what he’s been missing.

William Maddox: The Steadfast

William’s character is a tough ideal to match. It’s not that he’s perfect, because he’s not. He struggles with his own sense of inferiority, but he doesn’t let it stop him from seeking happiness. He doesn’t give up.

There are times it might be better if he’d speak up, be more aggressive, but his patience is typically the rule, standing back to get a sense of things before proceeding hopefully. If I could be like anyone in the Light Series, I’d hope it was him.

And there you have it—the four main love personality dynamics of the Light Series.  Which one are you?

Peace,
Jennifer

  1. Unfortunately, I've spent plenty of days of my life thinking like Nicole. That I can't or won't find happiness and content. But, if I really had to compare myself to a Light character, I think I would choose William. I can be single-minded when I find something that matters and retreat or pursue according to a careful plan.

  2. i would have to say in all past relationships i was probably alot like lily, i worried too much about what everyone else thought and not enough about what i felt. at last i had convinced myself i didnt need a man.. i could be perfectly happy being me and on my own.. when that happened i started to consider more what i wanted and what i felt even if it meant i had to be patient..which i am never. lol in the end i turned out more like mr. maddox.. we both did it became apparent that with work and patience we were destined for each other.. even though 13 years later we still make each other crazy, we're hopelessly in love and bonded for life. i couldnt help but feel like lily and william were george and i in the early stages of our relationship.. we just know we belong and its bliss!

  3. i would have said with all past relationships i would have totally been lily. i was more concerned with what others thought than what i felt. once i had finally felt happy just being myself i was totally convinced i didnt need love to be content. until i met george. that would throw me into more of william's mindset. i had to be patient and trusting which was always hard for me.. george also made very similar changes. we both fought what ever it was pulling us together. i couldnt help but relate to lily and william with our own relationship through the first years. once we connected and bonded we were hopelessly and blissfully in love. and here 13 years later we still are. its not all roses and we make each other nuts at times but we wouldnt change it for the world..i'm a firm believer in soul mates.. its amazing to be able to relate so closely to characters like lily and william on such an intimate level. everyone goes through the stages of all 4 characters at one point or another.. its a self evolution of love!

  5. I kind of feel like I am a little bit of each of the characters or at least I have veen at some point in my life. But, for right now, I am probably William. I had issues like Nicole when I was younger, dealt with abuse and bad relationships that left me feeling worthless. I rediscovered myself and then I was like Christian, judging relationships on past issues so it was more of the same in a round about way. Then I started letting go of the past but like Lily, filled in the blanks quickly based on my own perception, which left me in a mess. Finally, I learned to let things go, I stopped looking. I worked on me and while I am not perfect, I've come a really long way and I've been married for 4years to my best friend of 11 years. Nothing is perfect, but we work hard at it and we're in a good and happy place.

  8. I think I'm a combination of all of them. Which is rather sad. But, I have my soul mate and we've been together for 9 1/2 years now.

  9. Wow, what an interesting topic! I see the four love personalities in everyone I know. I would say that I've been like all 4 types in my lifetime! When I became steadfast is when I found my soulmate. We've been married for five years!

  12. I am more Nicole. I always am last, I put others first. Their happiness is more important than mine. If they are happy, then I am happy. I have never placed myself ahead of others. I have never really thought about it till now. How very odd!!

  15. Great interview. Unfortunately I have been a Christian for way too long but I finally realized the "right guy" was there all along! This sounds awesome and I am so excited to read another author that I have not heard of. By the way is anyone coming to the RT convention in Kansas City in May? I just found out about it and I am super excited!

  16. I have been a Christian type for most of my life but my husband was a wake up call that my ideals are not always what I truly want or need. And I am super excited to find another new author I have not read yet! BTW, is anyone coming to the RT convention in Kansas City in May, I just got my tickets for the Saturday FanTastic Day. Super excited!
