When a Six saved Kale's life the night of Sumrun, she warned there would be consequences. A trade-off. Something taken for the life they gained. But Dez never imagined she'd lose the one thing she'd give anything to keep... And as if it's not enough Dez finds her immunity to Kale fading, the Six brought in to help Kale learn to control his killer touch starts drooling on him the moment they meet. Worse than that? Jade can touch Kale. But bimbo Barbie is the least of Dez's problems.

After Dez and Kale got away at Sumrun, her father lost not only his most powerful weapon but an important piece of the Supremacy project. Forced by Denazen to remedy the situation, he poisons Dez and offers her a choice--surrender to Denazen for the cure...or die. Determined to find a solution that doesn't involve being bagged and tagged--or losing someone she loves--Dez keeps the poison a secret. But when a rash of Denazen attacks hit a little too close to home, Dez is convinced there's a traitor among them. Jade.

Sacrifices, broken promises, and secrets. Dez will have to lay it all on the line if there's any hope of proving Jade's guilt before they all end up Residents of Denazen. Or worse, dead...

This review is one that I wish I didn’t have to write. I am a HUGE fan of Touch, and Toxic was my most anticipated read of 2012. When I finally got my hands on it I was so happy that I started it right away.

I am so torn because I have no idea how to feel about Toxic. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it. I found myself frustrated while reading, but then I also laughed and got butterflies in my stomach. I wanted to quit reading one minute, the next I was at the edge of my seat. See why I am torn? It was so up and down for me, but what I think really did it for me was the semi-slight love triangle. It sort of ruined the story for me. Also, how the one thing that kept Dez and Kale together was taken away in this book.

One thing I will say is that the characters did not change. Dez is still the same from book one, and Kale actually grows a lot in this book. I found myself actually liking Alex a lot. I was iffy about him in Touch, but in this one I actually like him and would like more of him.

Another thing I really liked was the nice little twist near the end. Jus Accardo did a great job at playing the guessing game with me. Every time I thought I knew who the traitor was I was wrong. Super plus for me!

Overall, I rate Toxic 3 out of 5 stars. I am still looking forward to the next book in this series. I was happy with the ending. I am not giving up on this series. I love Kale and Dez way too much for that!

  1. I have seen this book around bunches lately. thanks for the review. I have not read anything by this author as of yet. I have been eyeing this series though. I think the second in series generally let me down but picks back up in the third. Hopefully this will be the case.

  2. This is slightly disappointing though I can understand why you feel that way. Too often I don't end up enjoying the book as much as others. I do try to at least give book 2 a try.

  6. I'm sorry you were disappointed. I've had Touch and Untouched on my reader for a while now but I always end up getting something new that bumps them down on the list. I'm still excited to read it though!

  13. I got this book when it was released, but it's just been sitting on my shelf. Mostly because I've read so many different reviews, some positive, some not so much. But now I just have to start it. I have to know what goes on during toxic.

    Awesome review!
