Above an exclusive men’s store on Rodeo Drive there is a private club called Butterfly, where women are free to act out their secret erotic fantasies. Only the most beautiful and powerful women in Beverly Hills are invited to join: Jessica, a lawyer who longs for the days when men were men, and women dressed to please them; Trudie, a builder who wants a man who will challenge her—all of her—with no holds barred; and Linda, a surgeon, who uses masks to unmask the desires she hides even from herself.

But the most mysterious of them all is the woman who created Butterfly. She has changed her name, her accent, even her face to hide her true identity. And now she is about to reveal everything to realize the dream that has driven her since childhood—the secret obsession that will carry her beyond ecstasy, or destroy her and everyone around her.

This was such an emotional book. The journey of each woman and her discovery of her own sexuality. I loved the in depth journey of these woman and where it all leads. This story was so well written and so beautifully detailed, I felt as if I was in the book with these women. I cried when they did, laughed when they did and found joy with them. A page turner that I could not put down as I need to see what they did next.

You have Linda a doctor, who after several failed relationships and two failed marriages to learn how to heal herself and her emotional connection to sex. Her past has ruined her, but can she ever heal again? You get to experience her journey as she takes it and want so badly for her to figure out what it will take to finally be freed and able to enjoy sex.

You have Trudie who works in a mans world and wants to feel like a woman she comes to butterfly to figure out just what she needs in a relationship and finds what it is she was searching for was in front of her the whole time.

Then there is Jessica, a lawyer in a bad marriage, who just accepts it for what it is, not ever looking to escape. But can she really go to butterfly and do something against her husband, even if she needs to see what she is missing?

But the best story in this book is the journey of the woman who created butterfly to begin with. You get the story of Beverly's past and where she came from and what drove her to become who she is today. I loved the constant back and forth in the story telling from present to past. I was so drawn to Beverly and all she endured. A strong woman determined to fulfil a promise she made as a teen. Along they way she fixes so many lives with just her words and her presence, you want so badly for someone to save and fix her. Even though she can hold her own and does not need anyone to carry her, as a reader you want her to find the peace she needs. You want her to succeed far beyond her dreams and promises.

This book is a definite read for any women to learn how to accept who she is and take no prisoners on what you want in life. These women are all powerful in their business life but through Butterfly they learn to be just as powerful in their personal lives. But most of all I needed to see what becomes of Beverly and did she get to keep the promise she made to everyone around her. A story of picking your self up from the lowest of places and rising to the very top!  A sad story of a young broken girl who by a twist of fate finds everything she ever needed and more. I loved every minute of this book!

5 out of 5 stars.

  1. Just by looking at the cover, I never in my wildest dreams thought this is where the story would take you. I'm not entirely sure this is a book I'm going to read in the near future, but it really got me wondering == what if there was a real club like Butterfly ? I'd love for the tables to be so easily turned with regards to the 'control' in a relationship. Not that women don't already. And it's always with their sexuality that they hold the upper hand. Hmm! Thanks for writing up this review, Debbie. :)
